Pin the large star to the centre front of the cover and stitch securely in place with a needle and thread.
I made two stars and then crocheted them together. Then added another row around.

That looks lovely @Gem-gem .
I have a confession to make: although I have crocheted since before I can remember - seriously, I don't remember being taught to crochet by my mum - I have never made a granny square and don't know how. What is the "secret sauce", please?

- PipThis is from T@ft - I don't do a chain of four at the beginning.I wrapped the yarn around the finger and pulling it through ( where you then have your loop) and then I made my chain of three, which is your first stitch and then worked around the loop. I found it tidier and as a beginner much easier.I have since bought the 3d granny square book, but not tried any of them yet.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

Hi all,
@Gem-gem, yes I just did it by eye. The brown yarn is very soft and stretchy and even though I had done tension squares on all the different yarn I still had to frog it a couple of times to get it right ish. If I were doing it again I would make the bottom flap shorter so increase by 4 stitches per row rather than just 2. The other yarn gives it the structure, without it they would have just been too floppy and stretchy. I made them a little big to allow for the water. The flap at the bottom I thought was essential as my dsis has a very untrained and spoilt dog who will no doubt end up snuggling with them so they will need to be washed. I used circular needles to avoid any sewing
. Also the buttons are not really needed I now realise as the ties could be just tied together. Once I got the width right I just kept knitting and trying the empty bottle in it until I thought it was long enough then did k1 k2tog for a row and them k3 k2tog to get the correct size for the neck, knitted that up to the right height and then cast off 8 of the 20 stitches left to do the flap. I started with 60 stiches in the round on 4mm needles and all the yarn was doubled but even though I have made notes it all depends on the yarn, as I am sure you know, but it is a starting point if you want to try it
I love your cover as well and thanks for the chart for the square. In the book you mentioned do they give charts for the makes? I can crochet but I can't make head or tail of crochet patterns, the charts are much easier for me but I usually just do blankets and often visit the tube of u to check out the videos of different stitches

The hot water bottle covers are beautiful! They must feel so cozy.
This was the ice picture this morning....on the ground as there must have been a slight thaw.

I do admire you HWBs, @Liverpool_Anne and @Gem-gem! The button closure is very neat and trim and, if I may say so of a HWB cover, elegant! And Gem-Gem, as a crocheter, but not very good at granny squares, I do appreciate the instructions.
Grey and white is a favourite combination of mine.
