Cherryfudge said:Just looking for some voices of experience please! Has anyone tried cubic knitting needles and if so, what do you think of them?
@CAFCGirl I’m impressed that you’ve managed to buy so much at once. I only ever buy things one at a time, and that’s probably why I have such an eclectic wardrobe!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.6 -
Thanks @PollyWollyDoodle
I am going to be ruthless with myself, if they are not the perfect fit, they're going back.
No more 'making do' as I deserve to feel good in my clothes...
I hope so too @gem-gem
Once they're here and tried on etc, I can reassess what I need to fill any gaps to make more outfits from the capsule items and I'll take myself for a good mooch in the town's selection of charity shops for those, as they'll be fine for finding as when once the base is sortedWealth is not measured by currency5 -
@CAFCGirl, that's very impressive! I hope just about everything is right for you, leaving a smidgeon of room for sending back and buying again (for the thrill of the chase).
@PollyWollyDoodle, I'd never heard of them either and zooming in on the picture didn't show me how much of them are cubic but as you say, they seem to be well thought of.
One purchase to declare today but I think it comes out of the Government layette allowance: a metre of soft fleece to form backing for the baby blanket. I've had to send off for it as I couldn't find anything suitable in town. This little blanket is an awful lot of stitches: 87cm x 140sts on size 10 needles, plus border. My fingers will be ultra tough when this is finished!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

@CAFCgirl, I hope the clothes are perfect and that you look wonderful in them.
@Cherryfudge, no. I haven’t used Cubic knitting needles. I’ve heard about them - they are supposed to be better for arthritic hands IIRC - but I’ve never been “up close and personal” with them. Might be worth asking on the Knitters thread?

@Cherryfudge - The knitting shop near me had some quite some years ago and you could try them. I thought they would be really odd but didn't notice when knitting. I will PM you.

Sorry for late arrival - away at Christmas and sorting out quite a lot of paperwork then have been away again. So 3 coupons carried from last year.So 69 coupons available for this.Spends so far.Having given up on finding any cords that actually fit I have bought 2 pairs of cord dungarees, 1 pair in blue cotton and (very frivolous I know) a pair in sunflower print. So a 24 coupon spend.I did look at some things on my wish list in the sales.2 blue cardigans, arrived, were deemed unsuitable and have been sent back.1 navy dress and jacket also appeared, were deemed unsuitable and sent back.Total coupons remaining: 45.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons7

Ok - job done! A quick & "dirty" job, with some lessons learnt along the way... cut carefully! (I managed to snip through the front panel when removing the back.) Allow for differences in stretch; the right-hand edge is well & truly bodged & bunched towards the gusset as I hadn't stretched the elastic enough. I had to stitch the t-shirt edge down again where it joins the gusset, which may not be very comfortable to wear. But they do fit, it only took 5 minutes & they'd certainly be wearable in an emergency! I don't think I'll make a habit of it; I'd rather make myself more from "scratch" i.e. the remaining remains of the old t-shirt!

I ordered two Wool& dresses in two different sizes for summer. We’ll see how they fit them they arrive. When I’m certain I’m keeping them, I’ll subtract them from my coupons.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9
