thriftwizard - you made me chuckle with the mayor and underpants it's the sort if thing that happens to me !!!
I've discovered a hole in my sock earlier this evening so that will be mended when they have been washed, at least it's not a pair of hand knitted ones.I'm really looking forwards to my 'no spend January' ending so I can venture in some cs shops looking for bits and pieces to remake, mend, reuse the material or just buy to wear!! I don't want to be tempted to buy at the moment

zoeblowe said:Hi everyone.
My first year on the challenge in 2021 i used all my coupons and this year i'm trying to plan ahead on what i might need.
I was wondering if anyone might be able to clarify what coupon values i'd need to plan for bedding (double bed size) please as i feel i ought to plan for this in case they all fall to rags
(I know blankets weren’t rationed in Australia, while clothes and clothing fabric was. My mum made a dressing gown out of a blanket during the war, specifically because it didn’t cost her coupons. However, Much Mending is in the UK...)
We do have a convention here, though, in our timeshifted virtual village. Unless you have a bedding-buying problem/compulsion, if and when the time comes, we’ll assume that it was damaged in a bombing and you were awarded an extra allowance of special coupons to buy it. Ditto towels.
Does that help?

Hi @PipneyJane, yes the hush-hush stuff kept me occupied for most of last year. Unfortunately no travel involved just stuck in the depths of the spare bedroom!PipneyJane said:@keepcalmandcraft - welcome back! We assumed you were seconded to war work in a different part of the country last year. Very hush-hush stuff.
If you have new pants or new/nearly new bras, there is a charity Smalls for All (https://www.smallsforall.org/) that send them to people in need in Africa and the UK.

@thriftwizard, thanks for the info, I will investigate those suggestions. I have a few t shirts that are getting a bit worn out and have been debating whether I can make some sort of rug with them as I have enough floor cloths etc from the knicker and tea towel culls last year.
I may have a spend to declare next week. I made a scarf from some wool left over for OHs niece at her request and posted it off last week. It has still not arrived :-( . I have had a quick look through my bag of wool but I don't think I have enough to make another one in the right colour though I will check tomorrow in daylight. A bit annoying as I did it to use up bits I had left and to satisfy my urge to knit something. Anyhow I may have to buy some more but I will leave it until next week in case it turns up.
Take care everyone6 -

I was just about to snip my deceased knickers up & chuck them into the (already bulging) rag-bag when another thought struck; it's only the back that's really gone, the elastic, the gusset and the lace/cotton front panel are still ok. So I've cut the back panel out & will use it as a template, cut another out of an old t-shirt, stay-stitch round the edge (if the Bernie will do that) then zig-zag it to the rest & see if that works! I'll report back...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6

Don't despair @Liverpool_Anne. The post is rather slow at the moment, thanks to Covid the War. FWIW, at least one of the Christmas cards we posted over a week before Christmas only arrived last week. It obviously walked from London to Manchester. (The one sent to Miami took even longer. They were posted at the same time.)
Fingers crossed it turns up soon.thriftwizard said:I was just about to snip my deceased knickers up & chuck them into the (already bulging) rag-bag when another thought struck; it's only the back that's really gone, the elastic, the gusset and the lace/cotton front panel are still ok. Just looking for some voices of experience please! Has anyone tried cubic knitting needles and if so, what do you think of them?

Well I may have blown last year's excess and most of this years - opps!
Ordered online so I won't tally up my actual coupon spend in case items are rubbish and going to be sent back. Should be here midweek, but there's jeans, joggers, a faux leather jacket, tshirts, vest tops, non wired bra, long sleeve tops, sweatshirt, hoodie and a pair of trainers.
ON THE POSITIVE side, it was 75% of the capsule items I wanted to source, so I did pretty well to find it all, at prices I was happy to pay. Sadly it is new, but I am planning on wearing it all to death and since its more classic styling (personality is coming from my accessories - of which I have plenty), it's unlikely to 'age' in terms of the fashion trends.
That's what I'm telling myself anyway to get over the 'from new' buyers guilt.....Wealth is not measured by currency7
