PipneyJane said:Weird, @Cherryfudge. All I can say is that it is some sort of chemical reaction but to what, I have no idea. What type of bleach did you use? Chlorine based or hydrogen peroxide (aka "oxy...")?
Worst case scenario, you could always dye it.

Hi all, according to the internet the chemical in the sunscreen is avobenzone and it reacts with the minerals in water to stain a yellow colour and then with bleach to form the pink colour. If you have sunscreen stains you need to sprinkle with bicarb and leave for a while then wash in hot water with a detergent that eats oil, leaving it to soak for about half an hour and then rinse in hot water before putting through a normal wash. The pink colour could be treated with lemon juice and sunlight if it appears. Apparently natural fibres, cotton, silk and wool react more strongly than synthetic fibres. I have never had this happen but I am sure at some point I have had sunscreen on my clothes, maybe a biological washing powder sorts it out but of course you couldn't use that on silk, or maybe I have different minerals in my water, very soft water here
Take care everyone7 -
Gem-gem said:Whilst I have been taking it easy after a Hysteroscopy, I have crocheted a hat for my niece for Christmas. Mum gave me a left over, whole ball of merino wool and I used some leftover 100% Aran wool. I have made a Pom Pom to go on top but won't attach it until she receives it just in case she prefers it without. She will also have the option of a wide band at the bottom or having it turned up. This is the first hat that I have ever crocheted.I will need to adjust/increase the number of stitches if I want to make one for myself. The pattern increases until it gets to 55 stitches. I think I will need to to increase till 60-64 stitches. What would you suggest would be the best way to check?Surviving the ups and downs of life with DH

Hi Peeps,
not posted here for a while but have been keeping up with you all. I haven't got round to working out tokens but still working within the ethos of the thread. We always look to buy preowned first and have a 50/50 win this week. I have taken a liking to Sea Salt clothing due to the natural fabrics but am working on (have worked on a plan) for a sustainable wardrobe for the rest of my days (well that is the intention for reducing spending) as I have no intention of keeping up with anyone
I have purchased a few dresses through the summer which will work through autumn and into winter. I needed a couple of full length underskirts to add a layer for warmth and could not find any in the CS anywhere so have had to purchase new off ebay. Also found some correct sized bras too pre owned and made 3 purchases there. DH was after a new pair of Docs and we found some pre owned and are as new for half the price, so one happy bunny there and he has savings.
Just can't find any free wool to finish off 3 blankets I have on the go as I am intending to donate them I don't want to spend any more money. I might have to barter in the CS

I love SeaSalt, @2Scratters and their stuff is very ethically produced (I'm not sure if that's grammatical, but you know what I mean!) I relaxed my personal rule about buying new because a second-hand dress was nearly as expensive on eBay as a new dress from their outlet shop. Beautiful organic cotton, I'm sure it will wear and wear.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.3

Looking at the suncream I have here avobenzone seems to be on the labels as Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane rather than avobenzone.
