PipneyJane said:On a different subject, I am 5 rounds from finishing the knitting on my latest jumper and am desperately trying to work out what to knit next. I am tossing up between Sarah Hatton designed Patti, Nora Gaughan’s Drift and Warm Jumper from Susan Crawford’s Stitch in Time Volume 2. I have the yarn for all 3.
Or do I knit something-else from my queue…

I'm really pleased with my green cardigan, but no0w I'm realising just how much of my yarn is small amounts. I have virtually nothing in the quantities for another cardigan (c.400g of DK), although I have boxes and boxes of yarn - but in smaller quantities... I think I need to really get to grips wtih stranded colourwork and how colours work together so that I can use up the smaller amounts together - although I also seem to have a lot of sock yarn I really am never going to use...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Pip, I really like the cardigan.2

I like all three, but the cardigan would be my choice. Depends, as Laura says, what you would wear it with.
Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.1 -
I like the cardigan too, but might just have been swayed by the lovely colour!2025 Fashion on the ration

@PipneyJane I like all 3 patterns, but if it was for me I would choose the cardigan as I find them more flexible.
As you have the yarn and pattern for the 3 designs some ideas to help you choose which to do next are:
1) which are you likely to get the most wear from? Look at @Laura_Elsewhere questions
Or
2) which will be the quickest to knit?
Or
3) which pattern is either the most challenging or simplest depending on what else is going on in your life?
Or
4) which is the most portable project? (Or elements of it)
Or
5) which will create the most space in your yarn store?
Or
6) which if any will remove the most guilt?
Looking forward to seeing you model the finished garment 🧶Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Oooh, oooh, oooh, I've spent some coupons! In absolute desperation... making myself a dance costume (Oriental/baladi, for those in the know) for next weekend, which has involved 2 x 50p recycled Indian draperies (dupattas?) being chopped up & attached to some elastic, to go with a teal sequinned crossover top & beaded hip-scarf I already own. But it's still a tad too see-through... so I've invested in two pairs of "chub-rub" type short-ish things to wear under the skirt, plus a bra in a similar colour, which will have decorative ribbon & beads attached on the bits that actually show. Two pairs of shorts because it's so hard to gauge the colour on a screen, but they'll get worn under other outfits anyway. I'm thinking 12 coupons altogether? Cami-knick equivalents x 2? And 4 for a bra?Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)5

Pip - in the magazines here in the United States in World War I, they had information on wheat and sugar rationing. They also had a slogan "Dill pickles are patriotic pickles."8
-
Acc'g Wikipedia:
"In 1916, it became illegal to consume more than two courses while lunching in a public eating place or more than three for dinner; fines were introduced for members of the public found feeding the pigeons or stray animals. In January 1917, Germany started unrestricted submarine warfare to try to starve Britain into submission. To meet this threat, voluntary rationing was introduced in February 1917.
Bread was subsidised from September that year; prompted by local authorities taking matters into their own hands, compulsory rationing was introduced in stages between December 1917 and February 1918 as Britain's supply of wheat decreased to just six weeks' consumption. To help the process, ration books were introduced in July 1918 for butter, margarine, lard, meat, and sugar. Each consumer was tied to a retailer. The basic ration of sugar, butter or margarine, tea, jam, bacon and meat came to about 1680 calories. It was adjusted for vegetarians, children and workers performing strenuous labour. Nutritional programmes for nursing mothers and young children were established by many local authorities. Unlike most of Europe bread was not rationed. It was argued that the civilian population's health improved under rationing, though tuberculosis increased. During the war, average energy intake decreased by only 3%, but protein intake by 6%. Controls were not fully released until 1921."

I had never seen the detail of its being illegal from 1916 to have more than two courses if eating lunch out! Soup and a sandwich, or meat-&-two-veg and a pud, but not all three courses!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

@Laura_Elsewhere that was very interesting yet thought provoking as to where we are today with food. I saw a randomly taken photo in the internet this week somewhere and looking at the fashion it was in the 70's there was a lot of people on it and there was no evidence of anyone being overweight. I think it was targeting the takeout food industry and how things have changed in a short 50years. (I am in that bracket
) it is work in progress to reverse some of that trait.

😍 today my Mum presented me with a cardigan she had knitted me, this has made me so happy, many years ago she made it clear she was going not knit clothes for adults except herself. I had admired a cardigan she had designed and knitted for one of the grandchildren and said how I wish I had one, a few weeks later GC was wearing it and I mentioned again how fantastic it was and how I would love my own, she asked if I was serious, which I was, that was the last I heard of it until today. It is fantastic and made with so much love, mine isn't identical to GC but has been inspired by theirs, both have hoods and toggles.
The cardigan from your Mum sounds absolutely lovely, you lucky thing! I have a hooded cardigan that I wear a lot and it's an old friend. Extra nice when yours is made specially for you by your Mum.
I have some spending to declare, 2 tops (5 coupons each) and a dress (7 coupons) all preloved, I will use last year's coupons. 17 coupons used 39/66 coupons remaining.
I seem to have spent an eye-watering amount of coupons this month, both new and preloved.
New, this year's coupons:
Bra 1.5 coupons
Blouse 5 coupons
Preloved, last year's coupons:
Trousers 6 coupons
Jeans 6 coupons
Pyjama - only trousers 4 coupons (is this okay @PipneyJane ? pyjamas are listed as 8 coupons)
T-shirt 5 coupons
I make that 6.5 of this year's coupons and 21 of last year's coupons, please can people check if I have both the values and my maths is correct?
