TwibbleDee said:I have not purchased anything new, but have been on the hunt for new shorts to wear underneath my ever-present sleeveless wool dresses. I haven't yet found any that I like better than what I have currently. I need to see if certain items can be seen if I carry them in my shorts pockets; if they conceal well enough and stay in place, I think I'll just stick to this kind and hope I can order more.2025 Fashion on the ration

Just a word... you know how lots of people prepare carefully for driving any distance in winter, making sure they have this and that and so on? Gloves, waterproofs, blankets, food, torches...
Worth doing in summer too - we're both fine, but yesterday our car conked out *on a motorway slip-road* meaning we had to get out of a car in a ;'live traffic' lane and stand on a foot-wide strip of verge because in the right-hand lane of a slip-lane there is no hard shoulder to wait safely.
Thankfully we both now have new second-hand iPhones with some data each month so were able to google the phone number for Highways England, the first phonecall you make (0300 123 5000 now engraved in my brain!) so they can turn up within 15 minutes and park a big flashing-light vehicle behind your broken-down car to protect you and then tow you to the nearest safe place, in our case the next place where the hard shoulder existed again. We then had an hour standing along on the hard shoulder til the breakdown truck arrived to tow us on. We ended up sleeping in the car and thank heavens it was a warm night as I didn't even have a cardigan, we both had just linen shirts plus skirt for me, trousers for Mr... found a good mechanic this morning by chance who found and fixed the problem, but... we were lucky!
So whatever time of year, have a blanket or throw in the car; have food and drink (we had plenty, luckily), have a phone which is charged, preferably carry a charger (ours were fully charged but we had no charger so very low batteries by the time we got back). And make sure you KNOW THOSE NUMBERS - the Highways people for wherever you are driving, plus the breakdown company you're covered by.

what a dreadful thing to happen! Glad that you are both ok, though having such a narrow strip to stand on must have been just as frightening as getting out in the middle of the lane!
I must admit that I am guilty of taking something only when we are going on long journeys (jackets/coats, drinks, and phones) but thinking about it it could easily happen only 2 miles from home.....Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

@Laura_Elsewhere glad you are ok.FWIW, I think the Highway’s Agency Control are lovely people. They kept an eye on us for hours after we broke down on the M25, earlier in the year. (No thanks to the RAC.)

@TwibbleDee, oh we know things are done differently Over Seas - so long as you only carry a water-pistol here in Much Mending on the Borrow, that should see off Mrs Dodderington-Smythe's horrible little Pekinese dog...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

There was a LOT of turbulent air and I was actually leaning on a sign's strong metal poles for security.
We were there for about 90 minutes in all.

So...the other 3 in my house came back from camp with COVID. We've all been quarantined since Tuesday. They're all on the downhill side...and now my throat is starting to hurt. Argh. Hubby tried commanding me not to get sick, but I'm not sure that's going to work.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9 -
Just popping in to say I've bought a dress (hopefully one I will actually wear. I have form in buying dresses then deciding they're too much like hard work). My signature seems to have gone back to April, but I've checked back and I'm fairly sure that means I've spent 41 coupons out of the 93 I had at the start of the year.Fashion on the Ration 2025 - 1.5 coupons remaining
August Grocery Challenge £0 of £250 spent
Declutter 7 things (net) in 2025. Done, now trying to keep it even (9 over at present).7 -
@Laura_Elsewhere I'd be communicating with the RAC that time delay is far too long. I am surprised the police didn't chase you too. There is only a small window of 30 mins (I'm sure it is) that is "permitted". Not good enough, glad you were all safe in the end.
2 Scratters xxAnything is better than nothing-check back and see
On the declutter journey since 2023 with Mrs SD. Tilly Tidy since 2023.5
