Sorry to hear about the survey, hope you get good news from the specialists.  Flat sounds lovely as well.

I'm impressed at how much you have ticked off your lists, well done!

    Thanks @Seasidegal58  @beanielou  @jwil  @MovingForwards :)
The flat does sound lovely. I will report back once I've seen it...

So today I managed to get the inspection back on track.

I have found 2 job possibles, one covering a maternity leave, the other a remote totally from home job that they pay less for than if you go into the office...I'm seeing this more and more.

    I visited some family

I visited friend to pick up documents

I picked up some YS items. Really pleased to find kimchi reduced from £4.50 to £1.50 a real treat! Tomorrow I will make a batch of soup...nice healthy food  :)

I've been eating poorly (for me) so doing IF (intermittent fasting) from today for a bit, so not eating until after midday...helps to control my BS and gives my system a rest. Not too worried about the bit of weight I've put on. I will lose it soon enough. Starting to walk more...

Carrying over from the last list

    • Arrange 2nd inspection with vendors/EA/workman
    • Write up notes from course
    • Buy a water spray bottle
    New list
    • Collect boots from repair shop
    • Email surveyors for more contacts
    • Contact contacts and arrange appointments with EA and vendors
    • Find out outcome of todays inspection
    • Buy vegetables
    • Phone HMRC re tax situation
    Hope everyone is ok

Yep its a growing thing. Job I'm looking at pays a whopping £3,000 less to be totally remote  :/

The £3K less is irritating but it translates to £2K less when you consider tax and NI - and not much less if you consider all the time you gain by not commuting and the money you save from not travelling.

Hope the garden flat gives you another option to consider. Presumably you could split the flat differently if you wanted...

    Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
    1) MFW Nov 21 £202K now £172.5K Equity 36.11%
    2) £1.8K Net savings after CCs 13/9/25
    3) Mortgage neutral by 06/30 (AVC £26.8K + Lump Sums DB £4.6K + (25% of SIPP 1.2K) = 32.6/£127.5K target 25.6% 13/9/25
(If took bigger lump sum = 54.5K or 42.7%)
    4) FI Age 60 income target £17.1/30K 57% (if mortgage and debts repaid - need more otherwise)
(If bigger lump sum £15.8/30K 52.67%)
    5) SIPP £4.8K updated 13/9/25
  • I can kind of see why they'd pay less, but would be working out the cost difference. Fully remote does make a difference for the work / life balance as it's hard to put a price on free time.

Lists are looking good. Don't forget to do something just for you, whether it's a pamper or reading a book.

  • Thanks @savingholmes, it is a big room I could zone it. Large hallway too...

Thanks @MovingForwards It's funny, but I'm applying for PT. FT staff only need to be 1 day a week! I would be required in 1/2 a day a week if hybrid. I would go for the hybrid and £3,000 more for the post and have a city day, work 1/2 day (off peak travel too) All theory as not yet applied!  :)

@Chrystal your comment kept coming back to me today. It has been shared with family and friends. Today the survey for floors came back. It is a very old property and the timbers are vulnerable to an insect infestation that can cause the floor joists to rot. There is such an infestation! Written report will come back today.

Decided to go with the damp investigation next week then depending on the results I will stop spending money on surveys and review.

Going to check how much solicitor will be owed if this house doesn't complete.

An EA called about a property they are marketing. It is beyond my budget but EA suggesting I view anyway. Will be there to see the flat so will take a look.

Wishing you all a good day
