So the best laid plans of mice and men and all that...
I was disastrously hit with migraine plus a chest infection. I had my first meal since Saturday lunchtime today and at last I feel an improvement. I had today off work so that will be 2 days with no pay this pay day. I couldn't go in as I felt too weak.
My boss did not respond to the text I sent her so I phoned. She said it hadn't arrived? Anyway she seemed not best pleased. I asked her what was happening about the severe weather? Nothing. It isn't +40 so I will need to travel in on a 1.30 hour commute each way in 30-35% heat. Unreasonable and selfish.
It isn't forever so I am sucking it up but it is affecting my health. Clearly. But I am lucky. It won't be forever...
I couldn't have looked at a screen yesterday so I known I am feeling better.
Today I:- chased 2 government departments
- chased a key payment I need for purchasing my house
- froze a card I can't find
- emailed vendors to negotiate on posh lights
- paid balance for short break at the end of August

Sorry to hear you've been ill, and it's really unreasonable to expect people to commute in the heat if the job can be done at home or somewhere cooler. A bit of flexibility inspires positivity and loyalty and benefits both the business and the worker."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Wonder if your boss is related to mine! That is unreasonable and shows a lack of understanding and empathy, hopefully you'll be out soon.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4

I had a boss like that once. I've already mentioned. I really badly hurt my knee and it swelled up massively. I had a 2.5 hour commute in snow. They insisted I went in anyway. I tried - it made it worse so I went off sick. Sadly I only got incapacity benefit - and spent most of it on physio but that was still better than going in. As I posted earlier - indirectly led to where I work now as I quit and got a more local job...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I think it's such a shame. We've spent the last two years demonstrating how working from home and flexibility works, yet some bosses are still living in the dark ages. I get that some jobs need that physical presence, but for many it's just returning to a culture of presenteeism which isn't good for anyone. For me, hybrid working represents the best of both worlds, and I am so lucky to have an employer who recognises the benefits to all - happier employees, better work life balance, fewer sick days, lower mileage claims, reduced building/energy costs, and I'm sure, improved productivity."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I've missed a lot on your diary in my absence as you have a new job and have found a house to buy 😊 . Well done on both of those and I hope the house purchase goes smoothly. Does it have a garden?
My immediate boss can micromanage too but I just keep quiet and try to do everything her way to keep her sweet. It can be a bit frustrating when people want things done only in a certain way when another way would do just as well, but it's the price of having a job sometimes. I hope you can have your three days p/w wfh. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
