Council tax banding

Assessed how accurate is that if you don’t measure just sit outside or drive past what about tone0

The estate agents who did the valuations had copies of the VOA's property details. Almost 29 years have passed since CT was introduced and the Bands are now well established.Kuga247 said:Assessed how accurate is that if you don’t measure just sit outside or drive past what about toneIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -
Sorry if they are well established dies that mean they are correct when similar properties are in a lower band or are they in wrong band0
-
Most people don’t check what band they are in they just go by what they pay every month most people don’t even know it’s controlled by the tax office inland revenue I presume0

It means that the bands have been appealed and the outcome has set the pattern for that dwelling type in a particular location.Kuga247 said:Sorry if they are well established dies that mean they are correct when similar properties are in a lower band or are they in wrong band

How many people have you asked if they have checked their CT band or not?
It is not controlled by the "tax office". The VOA is an Executive Agency of HMRC, but has nothing to do with income tax, it deals purely with property valuation. The Inland Revenue ceased to exist as an entity about 20 years ago.

@Kuga247 not everyone who disagrees with you is an estate agent, nor an employee of any organisation you seem to think is out to rip you off. I explained in a previous post how the initial mass valuation exercise in 1993 was done. The VOA had the job, of banding properties based on valuations provided by nominated estate agents. In my area, I can confirm that valuations were done by qualified surveyors, as most estate agents were in those days. These were experts in their local property market who didn't just pluck figures out of nowhere.
In those early days of Council Tax there were plenty of challenges to Banding decisions as the general public weren't used to their property's value being prominently stated as key to how much they would pay in local taxation. This despite the decades of General Rates being based on Rateable Value which was in turn based on market value per square foot.
If you feel you have a good case, present it to the Tribunal. I've already explained that you will be given every reasonable assistance to make sure you aren't disadvantaged as a lay person but I must again caution you to try to remain calm. Alleging malpractice or malfeasance by the VOA or the Tribunal without any evidence will not serve you well. If there is more evidence that the Banding of your property is correct than that it is incorrect, those are the facts you have to try to refute.
And finally, a property's Band is, and has been since 1993, shown on every single CTax bill for that property. That's annual bills, bills issued after adjustments like exemptions, discounts or reduction by benefits etc. If people don't read their bills, who is responsible for them being ill-informed?3 -

This is an extremely informative post and I would heartily endorse the 3rd paragraph.Jude57 said:@Kuga247 not everyone who disagrees with you is an estate agent, nor an employee of any organisation you seem to think is out to rip you off. You need to get rid of the mindset that they are all out to make you pay more council tax. The VOA don't care what band you are in from a financial point of view. They don't benefit from leaving you in a higher band. The council, who may, don't have any say in what band your property is placed.1
