@grandmanerd thank you for sharing, I know exactly what you mean about being just you in your own home. I've been married twice - I have 2 sons from my first marriage and a legal bill debt from the second 🙄 but have lived alone with my cat for 4 years now and I love it.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

For those of you looking for mysteries, there is a site that lists authors and their books in order they were published. It divides the entries by the characters too - if they are writing with different sets of characters. Gives an overview of the series also and has links to the authors' own websites. It helps me read the series in order when I can get them. You can also look up the books by the main characters. It is http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/11

Made lunch for myself and then set off to Oxfam with the 3 bags of books and 3 extra items. Had a look round the shop, bought a notebook, a novel and a sketchbook/ photo album (very good quality paper, think the cover is handmade paper and it cost 49p). Lots of things I liked but told myself I have to love it and I don't need any more decorations. Still thinking about a craft book which had lots of templates.
Stayed out for over an hour, sitting down between each 'shop' (mostly just looking). Came back home. Found some fairy lights to use under the stairs but couldn't find the bit that actually plugs in (lots to choose from but not that matched). So decided I would just go in and do what I could with the available light (it was already quite dark under the stairs). Found another bag with just a few cans and a mushroom box with sauces and a few bits, a tin of mandarins hiding behind the books to go to the cs - all those have been added to the shelves.
Cleared a bit of space and moved the large and small insecutors, an iron, a grater thing that might not have all it's bits, a slushie maker or ice crusher, the apple corer/ peeler, my seed tin (the seeds that were free with magazines and the ones I bought direct from the grower are in there now as well as the ones bought in the sale and the ones originally in there), the rice cooker and the bowl and box with their pasta in - are all at the visible end of the cube shelves (on top).
I took out all the paint cans and put them on the WM (next to the back door so I could use the last of the daylight. I have half a litre each of grey uc and light blue gloss - they've been used to paint 2 small windowsills for the past ten years but if we get a couple of nice days I may use them up by painting some of the black or orange buckets (they're builders buckets, which coat £1 each and with a few holes drilled in the bottom, do the job of a 40 l planter). I have 5 tester pots, 3 unopened (so I will be starting a new little box labelled 'doll's house'). I have half a large tin of purple paint (used 5 years ago to refresh some old furniture to go in the big bedroom (the curtains were purple) - not sure what I'll do with that. and four full/ nearly- full 2.5 l cans - one white, two 'shades of white' and one turquoise kitchen paint.
Any tools and bits (screws, nails, handles etc) have been brought out from under the stairs and are now under the kitchen table so I don't fall over them (there wasn't enough light left to work with). Several sachets of sauce were binned. Floor under the stairs is clear, I can get down to the bottom 'pointy' end and there's quite a bit of space in the spare kitchen unit under there (I left the sander and jigsaw under there once I'd checked what they were. Two small tarpaulins have been rolled and folded and put in a cubby hole apiece.
Two bags and one box of kitchen items are packed ready to be brought upstairs and I've made a neat pile of 3 clean towels and 2 bedspreads to come back. I'm finding that quite difficult. clothes aren't too bad. I can't move a basket load any more but I can drape 2 or 3 over my shoulder (same technique I use for taking out to the line and gathering back in) but I can only bring the heavier items one at a time. Whilst I was staggering downstairs to heat a bowl of soup, gather supplies and go back to bed, the bedding has built up a bit so tackling that is another target for this week.
I feel slightly guilty about counting the boxes of pots to be brought up but it's decluttering - I'm simply starting by identifying the definite keepers and putting them away somewhere safe. the rest I don't care about so much. I have 3 good knives (a recent acquisition), Beloved has a couple of sets which have had a fair bit of use (and some abuse) but the rest of the knives are assorted tat (handy to keep the odd one or two for cutting up plastic bottles and other garden jobs).
Elsewhere 3 more toiletry use ups, 1 broken cup and 2 items of clothing binned (the leggings had 3 different colours of paint and were so stiff it was getting difficult to drag them on), 5 x 10 l metal planters have been brought in from the front room windowsill and are outside the back door awaiting further attention. When I can, I will clean the window bottom and do what I can with the window (DS3 might do it) and then set out all my candles and votives - not specifically festive but very much winter hygge. I found a different place to drape one of the horrible towels so the walker could assist me around town, so when i came back i scraped the one I threw at the biggest puddle yesterday and draped that over the walker. I've had the back door open all the time I was near so the weak winter sun can help with getting the floor dry.
I make that 22 items so the current total is 669/ 20225 -
1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks

Hello everyone 👏 I have taken to writing my posts in Notes as if I get distracted it won’t disappear 🙂
Wednesday continued as a lovely day, bright & breezy - perfect drying day but my laziness in getting the wm on meant I ended up using the td 😔 DSis was partially successful - she managed to buy a top which will ‘do at a pinch’. DH had a bath (whilst I put away the shopping) & left about 4:30 p.m. He had a good time - too many drinks but it did help that they had a curry. Arrived home about 11:15 by cab. Then stayed downstairs chatting for a couple of hours - bless his little cotton socks, when DH is in the mood to talk I let him get on with it 😂 Whilst he was out DSis had a bath. I did 2 loads in the wm & dried in td - all folded up ready to put away. Whilst the washing was on I sorted the clothing from Monday’s wardrobe cull - started a new CS bag & a new rag bag. I then tidied a couple of corners of the living/dining room - quite successfully much to my surprise 😉 Quite a few bits & pieces either binned or added to CS bag including a weighted fitness hula hoop that DSis had bought but couldn’t use as it didn’t fit 😱 DSis & I had sm tortellini with lots of grated Parmesan for our dinner. Wultd. Vegetable box turned up - tomatoes, potatoes, squash, peppers, lettuce, mooli radish, spring greens + salad leaves instead of spinach.
Thursday is another bright day. I have put away the newly laundered clothes - only to discover that DH has filled up the laundry bag again 😪 Also put away washing up & contents of vegetable box. The only other things I have done are dealt with my mail & knitted a scarf. Not cooking tonight - having fish’n’chips delivered.
1809 - 1820 Kitchen recycling x 2, drinks cans x 2, cardboard box x 2, 3 lots of cardboard packaging, paper packaging, cardboard inner tubes, still wrapped 2020 wall planner - recycled
1821 - 1826 Kitchen detritus x 2, 2 lots of plastic packaging, damaged padded envelopes & shiny paper scraps - binned
1827 - 1840 Carrier bags & tissue paper; 2 gift bags; hula hoop; dressy skirt & jacket; 3 dresses; 2 tops; T-shirt; 2 tops in rag bag - all for CS
You have been busy & got a lot done bit_by_bit 👏 Poor GS3 - sending get well soon wishes & virtual hugs 🤗 How annoying about your signature settings 🙁 - I remember you had more than 100 bags, at least 20 large items, 20+ books read & had raised more than £2022.
QueenJess, pleased to hear that you had your few days away but sorry to hear that you didn’t get full enjoyment as you were unwell 😔 Hopefully you are feeling a lot better now 🤞Absolutely excellent decluttering 👏
Sounds like your DS had a wonderful time EnergyShifter 😊 Always uplifting when someone you love has a great experience 🥲 Hopefully you can come to some satisfactory solution re the work/leisure location conundrum 🤞
Back later to continue cheerleading.

Good morning! One house finally legally sold! Five days later than anticipated. It’s been a rather stressy few days but it’s gone now and I have an odd sense of having to regroup and re-purpose myself. It will come.Anyway back to de-cluttering.I’d two bags of stuff from mums last week in my car so added to them with a set of Roman blinds ( got new blinds in April, they’ve been in a cupboard for 6 months, were up for sale and no one wanted them so out they went) and a bag of clothes from my wardrobe. Some of the things had belonged to my late husband too. He doesn’t need them and I needed the space so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. Gave them a wee hug remembering happy times with him wearing them. So four big bags of things dropped off at charity shop yesterday morning.
Cleared out the cupboard under the stairs. Not sure how many pairs of black converse shoes are too many but there you go! DD2 shoe of choice 😆 not that I’m one to talk I have several pairs of fly London boots! In various colours and styles! My shoe of choice as it suits my instep! Tidier cupboard and a few things chucked out.I have a garage to sort out. A whole mix of stuff in there. Need to make space for logs. My shed ( where i was keeping them) isn’t watertight. So I think a bit of little and often in the garage so it doesn’t overwhelm. Still have some boxes from mums in there to go through and sort. And a garden to sort out too. It missed a month of me gardening when I was on holiday. So again a touch of little and often as weather allows. Just to make it a bit tidier. There, I’ve set myself some goals and some purposeful things to do!Have a lovely day.10 -
Good morning
catsacor, In the past I have taken other folks free stuff so that I can rehome it rather than it go to landfill.I am not that soldier any longer. Someone else can take that baton. If I need anything I do try to get second hand for environmental reasons and I like things that have had a life, most times they are better quality and I enjoy having things that are not in fashion. As for going to others houses ,I could declutter for someone else no problem at all. No emotional attachment,no guilt because something was expensive.
gocurlygirl frogs are things that you have put off which sit in a corner of your mind berating you with their croak. eating a frog means that you have finally tackled the "thing". When I first joined mse I had no clue with all the dh,ds,dd3 etc. I still don't get why the first d is included! There isn't a list of abbreviations that I know of, I for one sometimes use txt talk here because I am a lazy typist. as an afterthought,a justin is just in case. Can anyone else think of any?
Today should be the last day of the workers on the road. They have been blasting pressurised water/ sucking it out for the best part of a month. I will not miss the constant drone which makes your internal organs vibrate! parking outside the house will be good too.
I finished another craft thing.threw away scraps left over. It's a brooch that someone at craft club showed us how to do. Don't want a brooch, don't need a brooch but felt obliged to make one as she had gone to the trouble to show us. Slowly, slowly, slowly reducing the craft stuff. Found a box of beads in with my stuff which isn't mine, yes! it can be returned to it's owner.
Busy day today. Pick up new glasses, and a coordinated meet up of two different friends, one of which is bit by bit. She is the person I have passed the baton to for disposing of my unwanted stuff! Hopefully it is either of use to her or for her charity shop.
Vx
