I'm under way at last! (Been stymied by other vehicles in front of mine on the driveway...) A big tea-chest, an enormous spice rack & a cashmere jumper (that's too big for me) have been de-cluttered onto my stall at the Emporium here in town, and a large bag of fabric priced up to put on my stall in the fishing village where my mother lives; I'll be going down there tomorrow & dropping two chairs off with an upholsterer friend en route. Two bin-bags of yarn, fabric & general habby have been sorted out to drop down to the Scrapstore, which might happen on Friday afternoon, though it could possibly wait until Tuesday - they're shut on Mondays. The Christmas decs are down & we're sorting through them now; some will not make it back into the loft. Next step will be to start listing things on Ebay, which I need to do ASAP as some of them are in the way of other things which just need to get back into their proper places!
It's a huge relief just to have got started. But I do need to keep the momentum going...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)13 -
Wow this thread moves fast as not read since Monday and so many pages to catch up.Sorry to hear about your mum mothernerd. As I don't want to count my decluttering I have worked out that to reach the 2022 figure I only need to declutter 6 items a day and I will go over that figure so that is what I am aiming to do as I find small targets easier to achieve. So far I have declutterred so much more than that so hopefully I can keep it upI am not counting my normal everyday recycling as that is not really a problem, but clearly its not enough or I would not have so much to get rid of, so only extra stuff decluttered being counted.Already partly decluttered under the kitchen sink, finished a few items, recycled/threw a couple and discovered I had almost 20 packs of cleaning wipes
so no more wipes bought until they have almost gone.
Also cleared, cleaned and decluttered 2 shelves in my kitchen cupboards and much tidier, cleaner and a handful of items now in the recyled/in the bin.Took 3 bags of stuff to the recycling centre yesterday so now out of the house, lots of old baking trays/tins/pans, etc.DD has just given me a bag of stuff to take to the CS when I next go and I need to sort some of my stuff to go as well, hoping to go within the next week.Christmas decorations taken down and ready to go back in the loft, less going back up than came down as I freecycled 4 sets of lights, though I did buy a new setMost cards ready to be recycled, though still kept the 'special' ones for now.
Today tackled some of my make up/beauty stuff and thrown away a small bag full, probably at least 30 items, but didn't actually count.I have started leaving my kitchen tidy at night, a good tip picked up on hereand it is much nicer to come down to a clear kitchen in the mornings, hopefully can keep that up.
I have one frog to tackle in the next few days, which is the corner of my kitchen where stuff gets put out of sightI am sure there will be plenty there to get rid of once I start.
I cba to sell stuff so its either CS/Freecycle/recycled in that order or binned as a last resort.I have noticed my whole outlook has improved, I feel like I am decluttering my mindset as well as I am buying less, thinking before I buy, though I did buy 1 jumper yesterday that was too good to resist, but sure I will make up for it with what I sort for the CS.

Hello Mrs SD.To be fair regarding what to do if there is a will, no will or if the solicitor loses the will is on the government website. This has got more complicated for a number of reasons. None of which was the fault of the person who made the will. They told us which solicitor it was stored with and believed everything had been done correctly. If a will is lost you can submit a lost will form. To submit a lost will form you need to have some evidence of what the original will said (ideally a copy of the signed will). If the solicitor had not also lost the mirror will of the other member of the couple we could have probably used that for the submission as evidence with a statement from the original solicitor and the remaining one of the couple still alive. Unfortunately we don't have even an unsigned draft version although we do have one of the previous will (which although it known to be very similar to the one that was lost cannot be used as this will would have been revoked by the writing of the newer one).If you have no will (which is effectively the case here) then the rules of intestacy apply for how the estate is distributed. This is very different to what was in the original (lost) will. It is possible to do a variation to how the estate is distributed providing that all the people who would have been beneficiaries under the rules of intestacy agree the change. Again the details of how to do this is on the government website. So the additional complication is caused by us doing a change to reflect the way the estate was intended to be distributed. For additional interest there are rules of who can apply for probate if there is no will. Effectively because there is no will there are no executors and so it is done by the closest relative(s) which may or may not be the same people as the intended executors.Sorting out the tangle has taken a long time but luckily everyone involved is in agreement. It would be impossible to sort it out otherwise. This has been a real learning experience. I'd now advise the following if you are thinking about making a will.
- Make sure your executors know where the original will is stored.
- It is probably safer to lodge a will with HM Courts and Tribunals Service rather than a solicitor. This is because solicitors retire, practices fold and firms move premises.
- Get copies made of your will once it is signed keep a copy and make sure your executors have a copy. In the event of the original will being lost they can use this to prove the will using the lost will form.
- Keep the receipts / letters from solicitor relating to the will (more proof it existed) which is useful for the lost wills form as if a will cannot be found it is assumed that the person destroyed the will or there wasn't one.

AKH43 - Great idea for 6 items a day to meet the 2022 target - it sounds much more achievable that way!

Recycling day today so the mountainous pile of plastic, glass, paper and cardboard has gone from the garage. So I doubled it up by making sure the stuff earmarked for charity was dispatched; so gone from SJ Towers for good is a bin bag of clothes, a set of 4 plastic drawers, a pair of wellies and 4 hardback books. I went 1 stage further by loading a bike and a bag of clothes ear marked for friends into Mrs SJs car, and she promptly delivered them on school pick up duty.
Now technically all of these items had already been included in previous days figures so I put my 'declutter crocs' on and hunted down some fresh items to banish in true movie style "Get off my train...":
Day 5
* Large box of inherited Christmas decorations not used for 2 years
* Outside Christmas Reindeer decoration (I was certain that I had chucked it last year)
* Trampoline ladder
* Well used Happy Birthday candle
Steady progress by order of the station master.

Hello all
Not the start to this year that I wanted. One major frog that I wanted to tackle is still wrestling......(Iknow what I mean)
So outside of normal duties (cooking, walking tiggy etc) I tackled a different kind of frog, taking my own advice in an earlier post.
Approx 16 thousand (yes, you read right) emails deleted through the course of the day. Page loading was so slow. But I got it done.
