Knock knock… May I join you please, Mrs SD and friends?
My first ever post... I think this is the thread I need to get myself sorted out! I have a desperate need to declutter, clean, organise, make physical and mental space and let some new energy flow in my small home and in myself. I have chosen a username to reflect what I’m aiming for! Congrats to you all for your ongoing successes and progress!
I have suffered from debilitating OCD in the past and still have difficulties with certain items that cause me great anxiety both to have in the home and to get rid of (chemicals, electricals etc), and decision making/procrastinating (so things are often earmarked to go but never leave, frogs hang around for too long and cause worry…). I’m hoping having some accountability and support on here might help me with this too.
I'm not aiming for any specific totals. So far today I’ve decluttered: Book with pages falling out; broken tripod; four items of make up and an empty perfume bottle, and have intentionally used up dregs of two products and put the packaging to recycling. Two decorative items have gone into the ‘give away’ box. Bathroom has been cleaned, washing put away and another load done and out.
I have about four hours ahead of me now so let’s see what I can manage and I will report back later!

Hi all, I haven't posted for ages as I haven't been getting much done but I have been reading the thread as I find it really inspiring and motivating. Although i'm still over 10 pages behind so sorry if i've missed any big news, I hope everyone is ok. Here are some things I have managed to do in the last couple of weeks:
Cleared out my cleaning cupboard - for some reason we had 3 half used de-greasers, 3 half used mirror and glass sprays and 4 carpet cleaners! Why??? Need to use those up to clear some room!
Two bags of old clothes and textiles that are no longer any good taken to the recycling bin in Primark that takes any old textiles.
Emptied and cleaned a particularly over-stuffed food shelf in the cupboard, got rid of some really old food and organised the shelf with baskets.
Taken a large bag of soft plastics to the recycling bin in Tesco's.
There may be some more bits and bobs but can't remember off the top of my head!12 -
@Organisedme, not this year, but just before Christmas I know we started sorting and gathered all similar items together so we could see what we had of each. Maybe doing that could help you see what you have. I know I never realised we had 3 peelers, 2 of which were broken.I also never realised I had 'acquired' multiple sample hotel shampoo bottles over time that I hadn't used. It helped me work out what I did and didn't need and what needed using up.This won't work for everyone but did for me.May you find your sister soon Helli.
Sleep well.13 -
wort said:just a suggestion in case you haven’t heard already , there are people who can make teddies or cushions out of loved ones old clothes. You may be handy and can do this yourself. Then you can give them a hug when you want to x
I did look into this. Cannot afford it at the moment but the idea is there.....

vulpix. I f I am like your MiL with drive when I am her age i will be superwoman
Also i made a load of money selling vintage named fabric I had been given last year. I was shocked at what people would pay.
Its a weird thing clearing out your parents bbb. I have no clothes of my Dad's. He wore them to rags really. I still have his 'magic wallet' It has an ealsticated mechanism. You lay notes over the elastic and close, reopending on the othe side and the notes are neatly held in place.
Welcome @OrganisedMe . I have similar problems with letting things go but have been working on it over the last few years and enjoying reporting in big and little wins. Even the tiny wins, including those mini frogs are a lot more weighty on your mind than you think. Youa re making a great start. Enjoy
Reporting in to update my figures:
Two bags of books out today. One to CS and one to the shelves of the local garden centre who sell them for the Teenage cancer Trust
Also out: a large mirror that never got put up. Finally 5 bags of stuff given to me at the weekend now delivered to the CS but counting as in and outs as not mine.
Despite the horrible weather I managed to deliver a pile to cardboard to the allotment. Just got stuff for the refugee centre tomorrow and my car will be empty, Hurrah.
Signature updated.

Bitsy
They were his 'for best' clothes mostly. His father was a tailor so he had some good stuff. His work clothes were worked beyond measure and were 'ragged'. He loved working.
Having a hard time today. Also am so ratty to OH. Which is making me feel worse. Am going back to Mum's tomorrow for a week. I need to think.
hope everyone is ok

Big hugs Bala . Please take care of yourself.
maybe ask around if anyone does sewing for a hobby if they may make you something , if they have a sewing machine a pillow case would be quick for them to run up. XxFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.12 -
Hi Bala, I have just been to Aldi and they had a learn to knit kit with wool and needles for £2.99
