joedenise said:I set up one of the Nationwide 8% Regular savers the other day after you mentioned it so thanks for that. I set up a £200 payment to go in every month from the following day so it's already funded with this month's payment. Will be a nice little extra payment next year which will go towards a holiday!
DH and I really need to get PoAs sorted out sooner rather than later as we're not getting any younger!Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Ooh, that's good to know, thank you! My existing payment is set for 21st, so when I increase it, that can fund a transfer to the regular saver on 1st. Too late for that this time, so I'll transfer the first one manually today, and set up the regular one from Nwide current to saver for the 1st, and then change the transfer from the main account from next time
Not entirely sure that makes sense written down but I know what I need to do 😂
Mr Cheery was meant to be visiting his dad today but is going tomorrow, for various reasons, so a lazy one today I think.4 -

Yes, reading back I can see it won't make sense to anyone else 😂😂 But I'm not going to attempt to explain again, I'll just actually DO it tomorrow then report back 😂
So, bit of a grumpity day all round here, for various reasons. However, some things did get done.
* had a nice soothing cuppa in a cafe, very much needed today!
* stocked up on ground almonds
* first time back at band practice after the summer. Very cheerful 😊
* Made cauliflower cheese soup in the hay box - one portion eaten, the other in the fridge for tomorrow evening (or perhaps not - when I put it in there, I discovered the pizza I made yesterday and put in there for today 😂 So I'd best eat that first!)
* arranged a day out with my mum to use my free MSE national trust pass 😊
Off to see Mr Cheery's dad tomorrow - obviously the two non-raining days this weekend are the ones we've spent in the car visiting family 🙄😂
We'll be home about 5 though, and I'll have the evening to myself, and hopefully it won't be raining... So, a plan:
* at least half an hour of scything
* bit of strimming, it's getting out of hand, the postman will need wellies to get to the front door soon 🙄
* banking
* bit of flute practice now we have some new pieces
* remember to eat the pizza! 😂
* bit of batch cooking - granola, cheese biscuit things, and a veggie sausage casserole all in the oven I think
Got the mouse trap set as there's still at least one knocking about. Obviously it'll wait til we've given up on it, deactivated the traps, and started drinking (so we can't drive it up to the moors) to make its appearance 🙄😂4 -
Ooh, cauliflower cheese soup sounds delicious 😋

I used the one on the Joe Wicks BodyCoach app - it's basically just cauliflower, milk, a bit of nutmeg, chick peas, and some protein powder. Oh, and cheese 😂. But mine wasn't actually very nice - I suspect because I've started using pea protein powder and it tastes a bit odd, and also because the cauliflower (and brocoli in this case) has been in the freezer FOREVER and was quite woody and tasteless. I added a stock cube - not in the recipe but necessary as mine just wasn't very nice in its first form 😂
I'm sure there are plenty of nicer recipes out there, especially if you're not following some kind of eating plan and can wang whatever you like in there!
Shame really - I've been very impressed with most of the recipes, so I suspect this one was more to do with the grimness of my frozen cauliflower...
We're off on a five hour round trip to Mr Cheery's today, so of course the sun is shining and the garden is glaring at me 🙄 I really must try not to be resentful about it!5 -
@Cheery_Daff - hope you don't mind me adding a recipe I use for cauliflower cheese soup which is a Slimming World recipe but there's probably loads on the web.
Fry off an onion until soften with a pinch of paprika, add the cauliflower and stock and cook until tender, about 15 minutes or so. Stir in 10 cheese triangles for creaminess and then whizz with a stick blender. If you're not dieting you could substitute some milk and grated cheese instead of the cheese triangles for the cheesiness and creaminess.
Serve sprinkled with a little more paprika.5 -
I'm somewhat late to the Power of Attorney conversation, (sorry but I don't get on here often) but when the subject of the PoA dies you have to return the PoA to the Office of the Public Guardian since it's a legal document.
I didn't know this until our solicitor mentioned it when we were gathering the information for the Probate appliation for MIL and she asked if we'd returned them and reminded us to.
It was pretty straighforward and I think I just wrote a brief note stating when they (MIL and FIL) had died and I was returning the PoAs. OotPG took well over 6 months to send us a letter acknowledging the return of the documents.
just in case you need to know:

Things to think off on this POA.My parents have just done a will but not sure where it’s kept and the POA stuff I will ask
I am pretty young and v healthy but should do a will - at moment it’s just my pensions go to my mum. No kids but sisters kids will otherwise get the lot minus charity dons when I get my possibly slightly scorched angel wingsDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The thing is that if your circumstances are simple & obvious, like a spouse & children but not a lot of money then the will whilst good to have is almost irrelevant. But when you have an unmarried partner especially if you have children then a will is vital. Common law is not a legal term. Or single your parents get it or your siblings etc etc. But if you get badly hurt say without a POA everyone is sunk often even your spouse if your accounts are not all joint. I can not forget visiting my mother in hospital & no-one wanted to tell us what was going on. I ended up leaving my sister there visiting whilst I went home to pick up the health POA which her own doctor already had & waving it under their noses. What made it even worse was that they obviously had access to her doctors medical records so why didn't they have this. So never overestimate what their systems can do.
