Thanks Cheery for talking about POA it is something we want and need to do. Your explanation of how the website works, what happens if you have printed it but not completed all the signatures. You have told me how to take the first step to start the process for which I am truly grateful.
Also thank you too everyone who has shared details of their own POA, obstacles to completing them and just as importantly the difficulties faced when someone hasn't had a POA.
Our wills are very out of date and need updating.
At least I have done something, I am on the organ donor register and have let both my immediate family and the extend that I'm would like to donate anything they will take as I have no further use.

I find it interesting how different people look at POAs. I look at them like a form of insurance, hopefully I will never need. But some seem to see it as an admission that they aren't going to be able to do things themselves. As for not writing a will, well not writing one is never going to stop you eventually dying. I'm hoping to postpone using mine for another 20 years. I need to avoid a care home until I am 95 as DS will only be 60 then & at the moment they can evict & take it until he 60.

I’ve now started the ball rolling on doing my POA, so ty.
as for the organ thing - the Parkinson’s society would like brains (normal and Parkinson’s ones) they have a week window to get it. I signed up online for it a few years ago.Sealed pot challenge 822

I’m already in your movement Cheery, one thing to note is the registering of P O A can take a while, we did ours last year and there was a three month wait for them to be registered and returned. Not sure what it’s like now.

Thanks all 😊
@Tescodealqueen it says 16 weeks at the minute, so we'll see...
@dawnybabes thanks for the reminder - that's something I looked into before (after a tour round a lab where they were using them) - but then I didn't do anything about it
@badmemory I suppose it depends how close you are to needing it. I'm definitely thinking of it as insurance, but I know some friends' parents are closer to needing it and feeling threatened by the suggestion, feeling like it's yet another thing chipping away at their independence. It's tricky with your son isn't it? I think there are rules if you have vulnerable people living with you, but if they're not classed as vulnerable, and it's your home...
@Baileys_Babe I will echo your thanks to people who have shared their stories, always good to learn from other people's experiences 😊4 -
We've had a cheerful day on the whole 😊 Went to collect Mr Cheery's purchase, all as expected, he's pleased with it, and the guy was nice too.
Then to my mum's, where I spent a good couple of hours talking her through the POA forms. She's filled in names and everything, and I've left her to consider whether she wants to add anything else. I think she was finding it all quite overwhelming. While I was there her email from Prolific came through saying she got to the top of the waiting list (less than 2 weeks i think) so we went through all that too, which was possibly a bit much for one day 😕 All sorted now though.
Thenoff to my sister's for a nice chat, and to see my nephews, and to pilfer her old bike that she doesn't want any more.
Feeling more and more like I'm bossing my mum round every time I see her 🙄 Not bossing really, but giving advice, encouraging to eat something other cake, get out for a walk 🙄 I nabbed some of those free National Trust tickets through MSE recently, so I might suggest we have a day out somewhere and not talk about anything important, just have a nice day out 😊
Anyway, a free bike 😊 and me and Mr Cheery popped into a charity shop and got a pair of trousers each for £3.50 each, and a couple of plant pot holders for £1.
Not far from home now, and I'd like tomorrow to be a bit more mellow!9 -
I was over 70 when I did my POAs so not exactly a spring chicken. I know if I was going through it again I would have done them much earlier, but I don't remember them being as talked about as they are now.

No, I think people have become a lot more aware recently.
Right, 'free' dosh round up.
Happy wheel - minus £2 for September 🙄😂 going to try a couple of new signup offers tomorrow I think.
1P standing at 16.55, so 8.45 til payout. Can I make it this month?! 7 days to go... Possible, but not guaranteed - I'm on the edge of my seat!
Prolific - £24.81, going to aim to knock that over £30.
Nothing else owing i don't think. Not holding my breath on the Happy wheel 🙄 Would be nice to get £55 between 1P and prolific, and Mr Cheery is nearly up to £10 on prolific too, so not too bad.
Just need Agent Million to ring next week and we'll be laughing! 😂
Oh, and I opened a NWide regular saver this morning, very easy through the app, and I've done it as a joint account as the current account is joint too. Need to get the first payment across and a standing order set up from the main current account.
Actually, thinking about it, I already have it set up to transfer £1000 in and back out again every month to meet the terms of the account 😂 I'll just up the inward one to £1200, and leave the outward at £1000, and that'll do it 😊 Actually, I'll up it to £1250 as there's a £50 regular saver already going out. So far it's been just using Happy wheel float, but that's not growing much at the minute, and there's £450 in that regular saver now. Will do that tomorrow, unless I can figure out how to do it on the app easily now...6 -
Ooh …. I ought to check out that NW regular saver as I am a customer of theirs already ….
Good idea to have a nice, non life-adminy day with your mum 😊
You are doing well on the free money. 😊 Mine seems to have almost ground to a halt here …. 🤷♀️

I set up one of the Nationwide 8% Regular savers the other day after you mentioned it so thanks for that. I set up a £200 payment to go in every month from the following day so it's already funded with this month's payment. Will be a nice little extra payment next year which will go towards a holiday!
DH and I really need to get PoAs sorted out sooner rather than later as we're not getting any younger!
