Simple living in the country - back to basics

Whoever invented the turn it off wait 20 seconds then turn it back on again deserves some sort of award. It seems to work for so many things.

It does indeed!
The part turned up early, and the cheery plumber has just been to fit it - hooray!! Very pleased, it all seems to be working, and he's also replaced another bit that seemed to have a discoloured bit on it - possibly the cause of the first bit breaking so hopefully that won't happen again.
I had another thought - that £246 food bill does also include booze 🙄😂 But also it does NOT include the £40 a month supermarket vouchers we've had all year from the covid study, so that takes it to £286, which is slightly less reasonable...
Something to consider for next year!8 -
Payday today (normal, not early for Christmas) so will do a bit of checking and budget shuffling later.
Also, this has got to be some kind of record - I put in an expenses claim about 8.30pm on Wednesday night, and it was paid yesterday 😮 Not to my own organisation, I hasten to add - they've only just paid me £11.80 from early November because I hadn't put either my home postcode (which they already have) or the postcode of the train station on my actual claim 🙄 Nope, the speedy payment award goes to another organisation I attended something for - extra brownie points for them, and £217 back for me to put in the appropriate place 😊7 -
And - major excitement- the first kitchen blind is up! 😀😀
Obviously there's a bit of a gap round the edge... the walls aren't straight and it was as exact as I could make it, but hopefully it will still improve things considerably!
The gap at the bottom is because the top ended up being higher than we'd originally planned - I could adjust it with some faffing, but I probably won't at this stage - there's no windowsill at the minute so I'll have to adjust it again later anyway.
On to the second one now, and we know what we're doing now so it'll hopefully be quicker... I've not hemmed the bottom of this one yet, so will be able to be a bit more exact.
So pleased! Can't get a picture of them rolled up because if the light, will try again later.
Got another two kitchen ones to make - might see if Mr Cheery can hang the upstairs ones while I make the next downstairs one. Exciting stuff!13 -
Fabulous Cheery! A lovely splash of colour and will keep things cosy too.

Thanks Fortune!
Here's a pic of it rolled up now it's gone dark, and rolled down with the kitchen lights on. Feels much cosier just looking at something other than black squares of window 😂 (excuse the state of the kitchen - we're unpacking the shopping, it's really not as bad as it looks!) 😂

That's great! As you say, so much cosier to look at, let alone how it feels.
I'm fascinated by how you managed to get the fixings together to roll it up! Well done!2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
It's surprisingly simple actually, although it took me forever to figure out how to do it 😂 We've attached a bit of wood to the ceiling, and screwed in 3 cup hooks, then three corresponding metal hoops into the piece of wood folded in the top of the blind.
The rolling mechanism is even simpler. There's a pole in a pocket at the bottom of the blind. You roll it up, then secure it with a loop of elastic stapled to the back, which hooks over another cup hook on the front.
Probably going to be a bit of a nuisance to roll up and down every day but hopefully worth it! 😂8 -
LOVE love love the blind.
My favourite colour.

Thanks beanie 😊 We've has the fabric lying around for years, it's an offcut of old sari fabric I believe.
Still trying to hang the second one. I think at some point I'd managed to switch it upside down... and spent a lot of time adjusting it before it dawned on me to turn it the other way up 🙄 Fits much better, but now I need to switch the top fixings to the bottom 🙄😂
Good job I've finished work! 😂
Not going to get the next one cut out tonight 🙄 Will try tomorrow, but there'll be a fair bit of tidying for our visitors - assuming they arrive and the anticipated snow doesn't, of course... 🙄7
