Simple living in the country - back to basics

Thank you all
Yes, a frustrating day indeed, but that's life sometimes. Yes, we do have plans to hang the blinds -in fact they were meant to be hung last weekendI've still got another two to make for the kitchen, so I'll get on the case with those tomorrow. Just staying cosy in the living room tonight (although the temperature has dropped somewhat in the last 4 hours since the heating went off...)
I have finally got round to sealing round the edges of the windows that just had spray foam (with gaps) in - they'll need some kind of beading as well, but they should at least be properly sealed now. Won't make much difference tonight, but will at least make things better not worse!
Added to my slightly tedious day by putting in a complaint about Mr Cheery's parking 'fine' after reading the MSE parking board. Let's see whether anything comes of that...

Thermostat is now sat at 9 degrees 🙄 That's in the warmest side of the house, but not in this room that I've got the oil heaters in (and the blanket over the doorway).
I'm fine snuggled inside my giant poncho with my hot water bottle 😂 It's not exactly toasty though 🙄 and I hope it gets sorted out tomorrow.
Also looking back with astonishment at that time in 2010 (the coldest winter for 100 years, or whatever it was) when we spent 8 weeks with no central heating out of spite against British Gas who wanted to replace the boiler cos they couldn't find a little part. We got it eventually, and someone to fit it, and they never got their new boiler (or, indeed, any money from us for anything ever again) 😂😂
Anyway, NOT planning on doing that again!! 😂
We didn't even have central heating til I was 12 - but we did have a gas fire in the living room, and mid terrace that wasn't particularly exposed.
One day we might put a solid fuel stove in the living room here for occasions like this... but it's not the priority any time soon...6 -
Sorry to hear your boiler is playing up fingers crossed the plumber fixes it today.

Ouch to 9 degrees Cheery. Glad you have your heater and blankets where you are. Hope the part comes today and the fix works.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Dropped to 7 degrees this morning - but we don't usually have the heat on in the morning anyway so nowt unusual there.
However, I finally made it into the office and the heating isn't on here either! 🥶🥶 Tis still warmer than home though 😂5 -
Good grief at the temperatures! I'm glad you got round to sealing your windows too. Hope you warm up a bit more at work.2023: the year I get to buy a car3

Sounds like a total pain! Hope the heating can get sorted out really quickly.
Your stapling had given me an idea for my house. I have hung a curtain by the back door to stop the cat flap draught, but still getting drafts from elsewhere. I find closing doors downstairs problematic due to my cats needing access to their litter and outside, and my dog having some personal vendetta against closed doors and scratching them to bits. But what if I stapled blankets up???? I have an outdoor stapler, and you wouldn't notice it on my woodwork when I took them down. Such a good idea! thank you!Live the good life where you have been planted.

It’s definitely worth seeing this as an opportunity to focus on the insulation/heat retention/draught-proofing etc that you need to do. So that if it happens again for any reason, you’re not rushing around trying to deal with it. Plus doing the DIY will keep you warm!Do you have doors for the empty doorways?3

Fingers crossed all will be sorted on the boiler front at least later when the plumber has been back...probably he can't do much on the teeth side of things though! I definitely wouldn't fancy being in those temperatures though I have to say - my feet would be like painful blocks of ice in temperatures that low!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
