I read the context and none the wiser what is being asked, i assume the mother was fine with it.

Depending on the background, He could have picked her up or booked a cab for her.
Or she could have booked a cab for herself……
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I think you might be pot stirring and should let your husband and his mum sort it out themselves?

Normally fine, but one of mine is not thrilled about visitors using public transport in a pandemic - very high infection rates in London!

I am not the one pot stirring...it is another member of his family doing that!

Agreed, but we are not in London and if she normally uses public transport anyway, using it on the morning of Christmas Eve shouldn't be any different,  although some people obviously feel differently.

Yes, depending on her financial situation. she is fine getting public transport then save her money I guess.

Son did offer to drop her home.

a son, with car, asked his 75 year old mother to catch a train on her own - with suitcase and presents- to travel 25 miles to stay with him on Christmas Eve,
the 75 year old mother is physically mobile and a frequent traveller on public transport.
    there were no bulky presents.
It's a straight forward train ride which she is used to.
The devil is in the detail but, based on the above "facts", there is no reason for the journey not to be using public transport.
If the 75 yo mother is always offered a lift when there are viable alternatives, the outcome will be a reduction in her ability to maintain independence, so the train journey is "tough love" as it were.

But what are you going too do with these 'impartial opinions' you're getting from random strangers?
Justify your husband's (i.e.the son) actions?
If 90% of people agree with the son or 90% think he should have picked his Mum up, it's not going to change the opinion of the other member of the family.
