Impartial opinions sought on family Christmas matter

Hi and Christmas greetings to you!
This is a request for impartial opinions from outside the family please. So, if a son, with car, asked his 75 year old mother to catch a train on her own - with suitcase and presents- to travel 25 miles to stay with him on Christmas Eve, what would you think. To give some context, the 75 year old mother is physically mobile and a frequent traveller on public transport.
Thanks for your time.
For those asking for more context, yes the son did offer to pick her up should there have been a problem or cancellation with the trains on the day. And no, there were no bulky presents. It's a straight forward train ride which she is used to. Also the son did offer to give her a lift home.
Thank you.

Context - was he working on Christmas Eve or was there another reason he’d find it difficult? Does he have children and have something arranged with them?
What are mother’s views and has he offered and she has declined?Generally speaking I’d drive to pick up, particularly with all the cancellations on pubic transport that have been going on and that’s a shorter drive than my daily commute, but there’s always a bigger picture and we don’t know what that is.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
I don't have a particular problem with this scenario. It's not that far different from the daily commute lots of people take. I don't see 75 as being particularly old/vulnerable/incapable etc etc. What are the son's circumstances? Was he at work on Christmas Eve? Did he have other commitments on that day?
I think more information might be required.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3664 -
I'm 79 and I'd never ask my mother to do that. Merry Boxing day!
I am not a cat (But my friend is)4 -
I know my husband would make the effort to pick up anyone who was travelling to us for Christmas who would otherwise have to use public transport whether they were 25 or 75.0

Just my view but I would pick up but don’t know the greater detail.....0

She is mobile and a frequent user of public transport. I don’t see the issue. Climate friendly!4

If she is used to public transport, and the presents weren't too bulky then public transport is fine.
If the presents were really bulky then a car would be more practical.
It also depends if the 25 miles is a 20 minute motorway drive or 3 hour round trip in city traffic.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)7 -
Depends how she was asked. If it was a 'hi, do you want to come to us for Christmas, I'm busy Christmas eve but if you can make your own way here we'd love to see you ' then mum has the option to say or no, and suggest they go to her after Christmas and she will host a lunch etcForty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....1

Depending on the background, He could have picked her up or booked a cab for her.0
