Try Mary Ann Evans hospice shop in Trinity Street, Coventry city centre. Really good quality clothes at reasonable prices.Rosa_Damascena said:I am in Coventry and whilst there are no shortage of chazzers here, they are a thorough disappointment. Top of the pops is the massive Barnados in the retail park, I fully expected to be in chaz-heaven but it was neither impressive with respect to stock nor prices which were quite frankly silly.
I shall stick to my well-known haunts in the Southend 'burbs.5 -

I'm in Manchester and not many in city centre (that I've found).Rosa_Damascena said:I am in Coventry and whilst there are no shortage of chazzers here, they are a thorough disappointment. The ones I have found - Oxfam, Barnardo's, BHF - are all space and new goods with donated clothes arranged in some incomprehensible order. 😠5 -

I think it's a Barnardos that went into a retail park near me and it's also a disappointment. I keep thinking with that amount of floor space there should be lots of bargains and lots to look at. But no. I can do the whole round of the place in less time than in one of the cupboard size places on the high street. I just suspect that the retail park is getting a tax bonus for having a charity there and the charity is using it as a dumping ground for what it can't sell in its other shops.Rosa_Damascena said:I am in Coventry and whilst there are no shortage of chazzers here, they are a thorough disappointment. And I have a particular fondness for Barnardos as I'm a descendant of one of their "shipped to the colonies orphans" and know what excellent work they did for many youngsters a century back. (not all admittedly but my grandma was one of the lucky ones)

...There is a Barnardo's on a local retail park to me, and it is dire. The shop floor is 2/3 full of new ex-Debenhams stuff, some ropey William Morris stationery, nice but pricey candles, s/h sofas & a little bit of bric. The clothes are crammed onto rails, colour blocked but not always steamed so often crumpled. And pricey for where it is & what they are.Brie said:

There's a few charity shops near me that are now "boutiques". Same as you were saying @Floss - lots of new ex-chain stuff, some dodgy 'branded' stationery/smellies/candles etc, and very few books or dvds

The prices are shocking too. I picked up a lovely soft thermal top, navy with little cream spots. Had to put it back cos it was only Primark and it was £9 !!Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.5 -
Just been in one of the tiniest charity shops ever.
RSPCA on Oak Street, not far from Manchester Piccadilly.
Didn't buy anything.4 -
Cleobury today. One small shop, that very often delivers.
2 White Stuff cotton tops. £5.50 and £2.75.
Photographed awkwardly to try and show the design of the fabric.

Found three 99p bargain buys over the last couple of days. From the Leeds St Gemma's Hospice shop a pair of M & S black straight legged trousers. Today from the Otley St Gemma's shop where most things are 99p, a 1950's stylee shirtwaister dress with long sleeves and a swishy calf length skirt in shades of muted khaki, turquoise and lavender, and a fab Per Una ,knee length, black dress with a jacquard embossed pattern, elbow length sleeves and a gorgeous stretchy satin lining. This is the dress on EBay but the photos are not very clear...it's much nicer in real life!

I haven't been Out Hunting in far too long & since this weekend I will be down south, I plan to take my young cook & m'lady mother "out on a spree". Do you suppose (Months Later) any Pyrex will remain? Mind you, says she thoughtfully, there may always be Denby... I just want a stack of small dishes son can fill with healthy hearty food so I'm not driving pie dishes, stew pans etc up & down the M6. I probably ought to have the wheelchair shoved in the back, in case mum's legs can't take the excitement. It inspires her to last upright a lot longer but is a real space hog... I can take Middleson's deplorably too small suit to donate, and bid the cook find a stack of T shirts he would condescend to wear for padding if we hit lucky. (And if his pernsicketty tastes are not met, there is always the threat of Still More Curtains. My current bargains are Much Unloved by my menfolk, and I have to admit I can see why, but I'm paying the gas bill.)goldfinches said:I discovered a new treasure trove of kitchen kit ... a hospice shop in a far flung suburb. I hadn't realised that the shop, photos here, is at least double if not triple the depth you expect looking at it from outside. They had whole plastic crates full of Pyrex and all sorts of delights.11 -
