This lovely silver leather Boden satchel for £6. I had already fallen in love with it and checked it was leather before I checked the price so delighted to get a bargain. It does have a few marks or scratches- I’ll check in daylight.I have noticed some shops charging silly prices recently and the same shops have the same stock hanging around. I buy stuff I like if it’s a good price and often replace things with what I see as a better version and re-donate the original. I’m sure lots of people do the same so overpriced stuff is a false economy.

I don't think I'm going to be much help with your quest for Pyrex @DigForVictory as I haven't been back to that particular shop yet but I think I remember @C_J mentioning that she had called there more recently so perhaps she will see this and give us the benefit of her experiences.4

Try Mary Ann Evans hospice shop in Trinity Street, Coventry city centre. Really good quality clothes at reasonable prices.Rosa_Damascena said:I am in Coventry and whilst there are no shortage of chazzers here, they are a thorough disappointment. Top of the pops is the massive Barnados in the retail park, I fully expected to be in chaz-heaven but it was neither impressive with respect to stock nor prices which were quite frankly silly.
I shall stick to my well-known haunts in the Southend 'burbs.
Pics of my £4 light shade in situ, am glad I am now back to appreciate it

That's really effective Rosa!
Nothing dramatic here: a cushion for £3 (the pet charity near the old Post Office, the name of which escapes me) and five DVDs for £1 (Sue Ryder).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Yep that's what I do @Potternerd. Upgrade my stuff to slightly better/a diff colour, then donate my original.
Makes you wonder how much has been paid for an item in total, if you see what I mean? We've all spent £300 buying that lovely White Stuff dress, and only 4 of us have worn it ha haa!"One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. Lovely bag, Potternerd, a great bargain.
Rosa - the lampshade looks lovely. Did you think it would be so nice when you first saw it in the charity shop?4 -
Well spotted Rosa. Mary Ann was quite a gal ! The hospice is based at the George Eliot hospital in Nuneaton, hence the the name of their charity shops.Rosa_Damascena said:

Absolutely love your lampshade. A real bargain.5 -
@DigForVictory and @goldfinches : I have indeed been to the Helen & Douglas House shop several times over the past few weeks and can confirm they have a perpetually good and fast moving stock level of kitchenalia. I’d say it constitutes around 1/6th of their (fairly large) store so there’s always quite a lot to rummage through. I did see Pyrex bakeware the other week, but of course it’s always a gamble on the day. Not sure I’ve spotted Denby there, but then it’s not on my radar so my eyes probably just flit past it.goldfinches said:I don't think I'm going to be much help with your quest for Pyrex @DigForVictory as I haven't been back to that particular shop yet but I think I remember @C_J mentioning that she had called there more recently so perhaps she will see this and give us the benefit of her experiences.
A good layout in this store too, so you’ll easily be able to manoeuvre your Mum’s wheelchair through it. There is parking outside the Coop store next door.
Another good place for household equipment, while you’re in the county, is the Sobell House warehouse in Bicester - it’s a strange place, but often has some real treasures. Lots of furniture, kitchen stuff, curtains and electricals. Disability aids too, such as shower chairs and rollators if those are of any interest to your Mum. It’s located behind the post office sorting office on an industrial estate off Murdock Road. Parking right outside, and very spacious inside for wheelchair wrangling.5 -
I had an idea but the pics don't really do it justice. For that price it is not an embarrassment and I can upgrade it when I am readyPollycat said:Lovely bag, Potternerd, a great bargain.

I am so glad to be back. I had some very minor chazzer-success in Coundon before I left - 3 books for £2.50, and 2 Baileys Latte glasses for £1.95 and a lottery ticket (very uncharacteristic for me, but I reasoned its no different to a donation).

I popped into a chazzer today looking for a particular size picture frame and found one for £3.75.
I was also looking for a book as I'm going to Cardiff this month and wanted a book to read on the train instead of bringing my charger and kindle. I found the new Linwood Barclay hardback for £1.:)
I also checked the sale rail and got my husband a thin black jumper and I got a jumper vest for myself.
I saw a green Tu hoodie that I bought. It was quite long line and looked warm. Everything came to £10.25.2025 GOALS
