I turn left into the main road, I looked right AND LEFT, no traffic, I moved off.

The car (opposite lane- main road) hit the side of my car when he try to get through as he had parked car on his side of the road.

Whose fault is it?

He blame me for turning into main road without checking my left side. BUT I DID LOOK

Is it his fault not to recognise me turning left and assume opposite lane is clearly as he just see no oncoming traffic?

Is it straight 50/50 blame ????

Like this, but imagine the car parked further to the left (ignore the double yellow)

Is it fair to say as his obstacle is on his side, it is his responsibility.

I had no obstacle on my side. It is not my error.

He blame me for turning into main road without checking my left side. But surely I don't need to.

Bikes, children, jaywalkers, general idiocy - I can think of any number of reasons why you might want to check in both directions. As you’ve just found out.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Of course you need to. How otherwise can you know it's safe?

The Highway Code (Rule 170) states the obvious - "... look all around before emerging ..."

Right, left and right again I was taught. As others have said, there are any number of reasons to do so.
  • Pretty much cut and dried as OP’s fault
  • @P3, it was obviously not safe for you to join the main road with traffic already avoiding an obstacle.

    You admit you didn't look.

    Your fault.

If you did that in my village you'd probably have several tonnes of John Deere and trailer over the top of you and you wouldn't be in any state to ask questions on here!
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

Sorry, your fault.  You turned from a sideroad into the path of oncoming traffic on the main road. (although the other driver should have anticipated you would pull out without looking, and been taking avoiding action, it is still a lot more than 50% your fault)

You must always check left- or more precisely look where you are about to go before you go there.  I've seen people rear-end the car that stopped immediately after the junction when they thought it was safe to pull out because they waited for traffic from the right to pass them.

Another common crash (or much blowing of horns incident) is when someone turns into a sideroad with one side solid with parked cars, and someone is coming towards them, on their side with no-where to go
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
