January 2022 Grocery Challenge

Hi.
I'd like to set a budget of £600 to start with this month. We are a family of 2 parents and 3 children and we have a dog, 2 x mini lop rabbits and a hamster.
I've been trying to make lots of homemade soups and batch cooking when I can.
Going to really try to use Aldi (despite having to travel 15 minutes to our nearest branch) instead of the 'convenience' supermarkets in our small town. They tend to really hike up the prices.

Week one .Total spend for the week was £29.50 ..I was very lucky this week i had lots of salad and vegs left over from the week before plus we were given several bags of fruit from a friend who had also had too much food left over from all the celebrations .I have divided my yearly number by the 52 weeks ,whatever is left will go in to my savings ,hopefully this will motivate me to be good , not every week will be as good as this week though but a good start9

A small shop at Mr S totaling £4.36.
£48.25/£250.
£201.75 left.
We used to have two chinchillas but unfortunately lost our girl a couple of years ago. We still have the fluffball in my profile picture and he is a spoilt little one.
We would love to have a dog but our rental doesn't allow for them and to be honest it is a small 1 bed and the size of dog we would like wouldn't work.
We do have the privilege of a local cat who likes to come and see us often, the OH is smitten with her lol.
Suffolk_lass I hope your new family member settles in well.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy11 -
£66 spent at the re-located market this morning; I didn't need cheese, and the cheese stall has moved to somewhere different, as there's no facility to run & store his fridges where the others are now, so I may pop over to him tomorrow for some Brie, and pick up some peppers (which I just forgot) at the greengrocers. Otherwise we should be just about all in for the week; the menu plan is firming up in my head. This is the second weekend of a 5-week pay month for us, and the main non-perishables run has already happened, plus I'm happy to begin running the frozen food down a bit now we're in winter proper, so I'm feeling quietly confident of sticking to my target this month - so far!
The baker's sourdough starter is proving to be an absolute godsend, too; some of my "makes" haven't quite hit the spot, but the chocolate twists and this morning's cheese & walnut loaf have vanished remarkably swiftly!Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)11 -
