I'm not sure where the figures below come from.

I don't know whether they are already trying to factor in the April increase but this does seem slightly sneaky.

I read in a paper, I think it was the express, that the next price cap was going to be £1897. I don't know if it's true or not but if the price cap is going up to £1897 that's a £620 increase, that's more than my yearly usage even after I was moved to Octopus from Avro, who I was paying £48 per month and my bills were around £39 per month as I over estimated in case I used more gas.
Someone please tell me what money is

Keep in mind that the cap as reported in the news is based on 2900kWh electric/12,000kWh gas, so if you use less, you will obviously pay less, can't just compare your annual bill to the cap in any meaningful way without comparing the usage...

  • I recommend P'ming them on fb, they get back to me fairly promptly.
  • I've had e-mails with an account number at the top but I've not actually received anything to say how I should go about registering for online access. How did other people receive this?

I've tried to see if I could get anywhere via the login option on the Shell website over the last few days but the site seems essentially broken at the moment (and there's a message at the top about them trying to fix it).
Look for emails (same email as you had registered with PP) from Shell on or around 27/12/21, that’s when I got mine asking me to verify my account. The link had a 72hr expiry, so it would be expired by now. That triggered 2 more emails on the same day about the account. In the blog they talk about in their weekly updates it was showing progress and “set up customer accounts” was ‘done’. The page has changed a bit and has gone to Monday updates https://www.shellenergy.co.uk/blog/post/welcome-new-customers

I had the notification of their delay in sorting out the DD payments and suggesting I do a one-off payment; I think I'll just let them bill me.
They asked for a meter reading yesterday, so I did one (I had done one a few weeks ago too).

Hi, I keep getting e mail messages from Pure Planet asking me to make a payment of some £600 plus.  I am now paying a direct debit to Shell.  The on-line account for this states that I owe zero. At no time has Shell informed me that there is an outstanding balance on my account.

The messages from PP seem to be getting more threatening. Strangely, today they offered a discount if I paid before 20/2/22.  I am confused as I thought that I would now be paying any moneys owing to Shell or the Liquidators for PP.  As they no longer exist, surely they should now be chasing people using the PP logo and website.  This seems like a scam, am I right? Has anyone else experienced the same issue?

    Thanks,

    John

Thanks for this reply which I actually missed at the time. I didn't receive the e-mails you mentioned. I vaguely wonder if it was because I had been a Shell Energy customer in the past.

In case it helps anyone reading this thread I'll add that my issues with the Shell Energy website turned out to be due to the Bid Defender anti-virus software that I use, which I had to disable to be able to access the site and create my account.

I've not had this and like you I'd be concerned this was a scam. Have you tried asking Shell about this?

Do you have an idea of whether you might actually have owed PP £600 at the point they ceased trading? Did you cancel your DD to Pure Planet?
  • I can login to my Shell Energy account and can see that my credit balance has been transferred across 👍

But, 👎, my last direct debit payment was all the way back in December. The Pure Planet DD is no longer active on my account (I haven’t cancelled it; I presume PP or SE have cancelled it), and I am still waiting for Shell Energy to set up a new direct debit.

Also, I have yet to receive any bills from Shell.

Is this normal? Should I be doing anything? (Anything other than preparing to receive and pay an enormous bill!)

Pure Planet do still exist, they have appointed administrators and the company is not currently being liquidated.
If you are worried about the messages you have received being a scam, check the PP website where there are contact details and information on how to pay any amounts due to PP
Shell are responsible for amounts owed to you, but PP is still fully entitled to chase payments owed to them.
If they are chasing payment then ask for your final invoice from PP if you have not already received it, that should show any balance you owe and give enough details for you to confirm it is accurate...
