Utility point or EDF
Hi all I was with Utility point , they ceased trading on 18th September 2021, direct debit was paid into account up to November so account in credit . My EDF account says my energy contract started with them on 26th of November .EDF have taken direct debit payments but no account balance or bills yet.Question one is the energy used from September to November charged at my old Utility point tariffs?. Question two why can a switch take a few weeks but this is taking months?.Question three should I be paid a £30 fee from my old company as they haven’t sorted my credit, final bill out?. seriously why do we pay @Ofgem they seem useless at sorting out the energy sector .

Question 1 you will be charged UP prices until EDF took over as SoLR on 18 September then EDF prices from then on.
Question 2, transferring to another company after your company has ceased trading it totally different to just changing suppliers & can take months.Question 3 you are not entitled to the £30 as it is not just a straightforward change of supply. If you are unaware of the process, please read any one of the numerous threads already posted by people in your situation2 -
Why would I be charged EDF prices when my contract with them started on the 26th of September? I was clearly still with Utility point as my direct debit was getting paid into my utility point account and not EDF account.Surely @Ofgem should make these companies streamline computer systems so transfer of accounts is quick . Two months seems to be simply ridiculous in today’s world .Are you telling me companies can string out the time it takes to sort out my bills with no penalties?.0

So why does it say on my EDF account my contract with them started on 26th November? And why didn’t my direct debits get paid into EDF account if I was under contract by them ? I was told told by EDF not to cancel my direct debit assuming the money would get paid to EDF but it was going to a bankrupt company. I might ask my bank to claim the money back .I was with Yorkshire energy that went under and it didn’t take two months so yes I believe they are not working fast enough.@Ofgem doesn’t seem to be sorting the mess we are in out in my opinion.0

My account shows 17 November as switch date. I think it just represents a specific stage in the process being achieved. EDF charges will apply from 18 September as pointed out.
Re Direct debits, they, incorporated within any credit after your final UP bill is calculated wil come across in due course. They showed as UP direct debits until EDF's system took them over.
They weren't going to a bankrupt company. They went to the administrators and is protected. No point trying to reclaim them unless you want to complicate and draw out the process further.
Agreed it's taking an age, but everyone bar possibly one poster here realised it's at least in part also down to how quickly the UP administrator processes the final UP accounts. EDF can't properly bill without UP closing meter readings and final account balances.2 -

All the direct debits you have paid to UP administrators will show on this bill as credits.Whatever your final balance is, whether in debit or credit will be transferred to your EDF account. This may take some time so you will need to be patient - unlike some on here - however it will happen & you won’t lose anything. If you claim the direct debits you have paid back from the bank, your final bill may be incorrect as they will have to debit the payments they have already credited you back onto your account.1

When EDF told me to carry on paying direct debits they didn’t tell me they were getting paid into a company that was bankrupt. Surely I should have been told that my money was not getting paid to EDF but building up a huge credit with a bankrupt company?.I have submitted meter readings from the date utility point went under so I don’t understand why it’s taken so long.0

To ensure they could take over the direct debit without the hassle of you having to set up a new one
And to ensure payers don't get too far in arrears.
Of course they are bankrupt (or in administration). You'd not be swapping if they weren't...1 -
My point is I didn’t agree to pay administrators of a bankrupt company my direct debit mandate is with utility point or EDF so how can my bank allow money to be paid to a failed companies administrators?. I was in credit as I’m sure a lot of others were so to carry on taking money in my book is rather dishonest and not really fair on the customers ?.I still think my EDF account shouldn’t say that my contract with them starts on 26th November yet they can bill me for energy at their tariffs before that date .0
