@London_1 think it’s when you sow leafy plants to just harvest them when they are small as salad greens rather than let them grow big. You can get a harvest very quickly as you’re only letting them grow a small amount then just snip the whole thing into your salad bowl. Herbs, salad leaves, peas to grow just for the shoots etc.Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

You can do soil or you can buy a special container substrate thing. I just used a small amount of soil in cut up milk bottleLife happens, live it well.4

Pea shoots are a nice little luxury to grow on a winter window sill.
Just put an inch of compost/soil in a dish or even several layers of damp kitchen roll or a small square of old towelling.
Sprinkle on a layer of cheap dried soup peas. No need to buy expensive packets of sprouting seeds from a garden centre.
Keep the base material moist. Your peas will soon start sprouting. Snip off for a garnish as needed.

I wish I’d read that before I went shopping. I love pea shoots, I’d no idea they were that easy!I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.4

You live and learn Young Blue Eyes . My first attempt many years ago was with the expensive sprouting seeds packs . When I realised they looked identical to my dried soup pea packs at a fraction of the cost I decided to experiment. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" as they say!10

I planted some peas in a thin layer of compost a couple of days ago. They are sprouting already. I got a packet of dried peas from the wholefood shop. Last summer we planted some in the garden and got a good crop of peas.8

Would they need heat to germinate? My kitchen windowsills are bright but cold….I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.6
