This is a thread for information and ideas on saving money on clothing.

There seems to be a theme with peoples Statement Of Affairs over on debt free wannabe, so I thought a series of threads might help from this forum, so you helpful lot can give your opinions, thoughts and ideas on how to save money on some of these common problem areas.

I know there's lots of info on this forum already, but there's SO MUCH info it's a bit daunting and confusing for a lot of people, so hopefully this thread and others like it can pool some of the main ideas and people will be able to find them easier (including me! :D ).

This is the CLOTHING thread.

• Ideas on how to make and repair clothes.
• Where is cheap to buy clothes from. Online or known shops.
• How to best get rid of old clothes and make money for new ones.
• Any other tips.
Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!

I'm currently wearing a lovely topshop top that was 1.50 from a charity shop and a pair of 100% linen trousers £8 from primark - I used to make my own linen trews for summer but I can't make them for less

I'll move this to the Clothing Board later.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I also like to hunt out bargains in charity shops and get a bus to an 'affleunt' area ;)where they have some goodies. It would be more MSE if I walked as I am trying to improve my fitness but that's for another thread! We don't have a Primark here but I've bought their stuff in the past and most of it lasted well.

Look in your wardrobe - do you need new clothes (as opposed to just wanting them :) ). If you do, then look round the charity shops.

Make a vow to not buy more than 2 new items at all for the next 12 months :D

As Penpen has already said do you really need new clothes as an adult they don't wear out very quickly and you don't tend to out grow them (unless like me you put on weight) me and my friends keep a dont want anymore bag and chuck in there what we dont want/cant fit anymore and get together and take what we want from each others bag i got a nice pair of next jeans of a friend the other day and all for free;)

ETA We do the same with the kids clothes
