Well done to the HT that he was level headed enough and sensible enough to refuse his so called friend. It's a tough lesson though and not telling anyone about his financial position is a good defence mechanism.
my friend's grandson was given an academy contract with a premier league football team at age 16 with a monthly pay of £12,000 🙀. While his friends had Saturday jobs and were saving up for a car he could have had access to vast amounts of money. His friends expected him to pay for everything and he just ended up drifting apart from them because his world was so different to theirs. Luckily his parents gave him a generous allowance and put the bulk of the money into savings. At 18 he was earning £20,000 a month. At 20 his career was over because of a recurrent injury. Thanks to his parents he had an amazing nest egg.

Blimey, I remember 20/20, surprisingly 😂
Good on HT for not just being sensible but for recognising that his peers aren't being sensible, it's that sort of not keeping up with the Jones' that'll stand him in good stead

@Blackcats that's such a shame for your friend's grandson. Twenty is a very early age to see fame almost in your grasp and then to have it snatched away.
@PennysIntoPounds he isn't always sensible but he did say that if dopey friend had put some money aside from his £2.5k a month wages he wouldn't need to be pestering him for cash. It's been hard for him falling out with his best friends but he's handled it very well. I'm making him an emotional support duck with a frog hat (crochet) just now as he's working hard and it will make him laugh.
@EssexHebridean not only did we drink Diamond White we occasionally mixed it with CherryB and then we took 2 ibuprofen with the last drink so we didn't wake up with a hangover. Every now and then I make a silent apology to my liver and kidneys. I do like to point out that I didn't have a mispent youth though, I actually enjoyed it very much.
The HT had to pay for his first ever dentist check up today. I've warned him that life goes downhill from here. For me it has been an unproductive day after being busy yesterday. I went to garden at best friend's house this afternoon but it was cold so we checked the little greenhouse, washed some dahlia tubers which he trimmed and then we left them to dry, we checked the rest of the garden and them came indoors. It would seem that our new hobby is looking on the 'net at houses that we can't afford, eating peppermint creams (I took the trial ones made yesterday with me) and drinking coffee. The fox went past at 3pm which is early - we don't usually see it that early and in broad daylight.
Money saving - we went to Costa on the way home from the dentist and collected the HT's free cake for his birthday. I did not go into Hobbycraft which is in the same shopping area.
Take care all of you 😊3 -
Lol @ you looking at expensive houses online @CRANKY40. I've just had my weekly online browse of bungalows in Suffolk & we are not even going to move until Mr F retires. I'm still a good few years off pension age myself, & he's 5 years younger than me! I like to look though, to check the price differential between property prices there & where we currently live aren't getting too wide.
Shame about your son's friend, but honestly, what a cheek!

He shouldn't always be sensible at such a young age and rightly so, but recognising these things shows he's had enough sense and a good attitude instilled in him, so much credit to you!

Well done @CRANKY40 on navigating such a difficult time with grace. FB is appalling. Congratulations on the sense you've plainly helped HT to develop. The entitlement of some 'friends' is truly astounding; he's dodged a bullet there. Love Humdinger xx3
