Nice to have the boiler in the living room to admire before having it fitted - at the amount it cost, you may as well get your monies-worth!
Don't feel disheartened at NSDs being wiped out by the cost of the boiler either - it's many multiples of NSDs that help to fund us being able to make improvements - and remember the new boiler will also be paying for its keep in terms of savings in energy use, too!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I find a vase of flowers (or maybe some tastefully arranged tomatoes) can make all the difference to the boiler in the living room 🤣🤣🤣Sealed pot challenge 822

Hello peeps,
October wasn't the best month ever. The boiler replacement was traumatic (not least because my next door neighbour was on nights so was trying to sleep while there were holes being drilled in my walls) but it's done now and I can turn the hot tap on for hot water any time instead of having to heat up a tank of water first.
The HT had a fall out with some of his friends. They've been a bit cold since he got his inheritance money and refused to give one of them £1K so they could all have a good summer. I kid you not! Luckily he has plenty of good sense and two of the ex friends have departed for university elsewhere and the third one lives nowhere near us so it could be worse. He has also started uni and made some new friends on his course as well as having one friend from college who has gone on to study the same course with him so he has plenty to keep him busy.
October also brings the anniversary of the late MrC's death. Some years are ok and some years bring a lot of memories. This years wasn't that bad (it's been a long time) but like an eejit I started reading some of my farcebook memories. It was hard when it happened as he was at work and not even in this country, I had no idea what had happened and people kept asking me. Next year I will know better than to drag up any such reminders.
The HT had a birthday last weekend and I didn't have to make a cake. He asked for Krispy Kreme doughnuts instead which were much nicer than I thought they would be. He doesn't generally ask for much so I burgled the birthday/Christmas pot as I've made a cake every year since he was seven so no mum guilt there.
I've also decided to reorganise my finances. I've moved some of my accounts round to give myself a "pocket money" account. I've bought a few things to organise our house better - plastic drawer units and some shelves for the spare room and another (bigger) bookcase for my bedroom. The small bookcase from Ikea wasn't coping with my reading habits 😁 The spending money thing has to stop now though so I thought a pocket money account would be good. I'd like to try to put some of the boiler costs back into my savings accounts rather than thinking "oh look, there's money in my account, lets spend it".
Time to go and put the clean bedding away - I stripped the HT's bed and remade it with winter bedding and his winter duvet now so he should be cosy tonight.
Take care all of you 😊

Like this you mean @dawnybabes? This was during the three months of building work at best friend's house. This was a couple of weeks before it was finished and the flower is on top of the new range cooker which is in the middle of the room a fair distance away from it's final destination 🤣

Good to hear from you, sorry it's not been a good month for you.
The new boiler will make a difference.2 -
How fabulous is it to have hot water at will 😆 We had a combi boiler fitted 7 years ago and it’s so much better.I can’t believe HT’s friends, how people change when there’s a sniff of money 🤬
The anniversary of Mr C’s death is always going to stir up sad memories for you no matter how long ago it was 🙁I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3 -
Glad the boiler trauma is over with, and what a good time of year to have hot water!
That must have been horrible for HT, and you. Good that you brought him up to be sensible and although it's sad, good that he's rid of a 'friend' who displays such bullying and entitled qualities. What's wrong with a bottle of sickly sweet spirits and a twenty pack of fags between ten of you in the park after dark I ask you, youth of today! 😂
Seriously though, glad he's settling into uni amd has made new friends
Sorry for your loss despite the years gone by, and yes, many people say FB memories are better for traumatising than anything else.
Well done on getting your spending reorganised, although a bigger bookshelf is always justified 😁
Take care of yourself, that sounds like a very full-on month both emotionally and energy-wise x3 -
Glad the new boiler is in despite the challenges.
Well done to HT for being sensible with his so-called 'friends'. Glad he's settling in at uni.
Sorry about the anniversary. You can delete posts that come up on memories, I've only worked out how to do it on the actual day though. I do delete stuff I'd rather not see again as a memory."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I've always shied away from FB memories for the same reason - see also people who tag people who have died in FB posts and bring them back into your feed in that way - when you were close to that person it can be really tough to suddenly have memories put back in front of you like that. MrEH has strict instructions that if anything happens to me he is to lock my profile down tight so that nobody else can do that.
Awful for HT with the behaviour of his friends - hopefully the ones he is making at uni will be of a better quality!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks all - the friend who was most determined that the HT should give him some money has very well off (and separated) parents. He had also been relieved of his apprenticeship after a couple of months of minimum effort and whilst not sharing any of his very substantial wages for that time seemed to think that the HT should share his inheritance. Luckily the HT thought otherwise. Both of the HT's grandfathers were very careful with money and it seems to be an inherited trait. The HT prefers spending my money to his own but would cough up if it was needed. He also said he's never telling anyone about his finances ever again.
I've made celery soup this afternoon which was easy enough. I used vegan garlic and herb cream cheese instead of a garlic clove and some milk as I'll pass some of it on to best friend whose garden the celery came from. He has a dairy allergy and some of the dairy free things we've tried over the years have been vile but this vegan cream cheese is one whose name begins with B and it's edible.
@PennysIntoPounds we used to have Diamond White and 20/20 (known as Mad Dog) back in the day. This lot drink vodka and get their coffees from Costa! The HT did say that some of them are spending their maintenance loan as if it was free money. He hasn't touched his yet.....
Take care all of you 😊5
