I'm so pleased your op has been a success. People I know who've had these sorts of procedures say it's a whole new lease of life in every way.
Had to laugh at your sister making you take off the top you were wearing so she could nab it. Maybe when you're able to you can go over there and leave with a lamp or something on the grounds that it'll look better in your living room 😁6 -

My sister....last time she left with my casserole dishes, a full set of king sized bedding and most of my bath towels (There's only two of you, why do you need all these towels? There's seven of us....). Luckily she usually flies over and can't carry much. This is only the second time in 9 years that she's brought the car. Going over there is worse. I very quickly discovered not to take any clothes or shoes that were either new or that I wanted to keep because you can bet I'd be coming home without them 🤣🤣🤣7 -

Good morning all, it's been a while. The first part of the month was very stressful waiting for exam results but the good news is that the HT is going to university.
At the end of this week child benefit and widowed parents allowance stops and I'm much happier to be facing a reduction in income knowing that I don't have any debts to pay off. The HT's friends are also off to Uni but slightly further away than him. Only slightly but they wanted to do something "all together" today. Some of them don't have any money (one in particular who is the boyfriend of one of the going to uni people) and the rest want to hang onto their pennies so I've said they can all come here instead. I went to the supermarket and spent £50 on pizzas, party food and sweets for them - they can cook the pizzas themselves and it'll save the expense of ordering in. I think if they had takeaway the pizzas alone would cost the same as the total of the food that I bought, maybe more.
I'm trying to tidy and cut down on the clutter in this house. It's always been a bit disorganised because of downsizing from the big house and therefore filling this house super full as soon as we moved in. I've started on the kitchen and the HT and I sorted two drawers last night. He did the new cutlery tray (more spaces than the old one and properly organised) and I did the junk drawer which now holds teatowels and kitchen utensils. I was going to sort out the pan drawer today but bearing in mind the impending invasion later today I think I'll leave it until tomorrow.
Food growing - I have lots of bags of green beans in the freezer and blueberries too that I've frozen in single portions. I've sliced courgettes then bagged and frozen them in soup kits (3 courgettes one onion to a bag) and I'm waiting for some more of my pumpkins/squash to be big enough to pick and bake so that I can freeze them too. I've stewed and frozen baking apples - four tubs of those in friend's extra freezer and I made apple pies too this week. The ever growing rhubarb is just about ready for it's last cut too. It's halfway up the fence again because it has loved having so much rain.
I'm contemplating sourdough bread so I've made a starter. I'm too chicken to try the bread yet but the discard makes huge floofy pancakes. I put blueberries in the batter and left half for the next day. The pancake batter was an interesting colour on day two because of the blueberries so I stirred a bit more flour in to make it less grey and the resulting pancakes were so good that I think I'll be making those a lot more.
The fuel account is in credit and I also have a savings account with extra money in if we use up all of our credit over the winter. We won't freeze or starve and my new hobby seems to be watching "homestead" videos on youtube. I was looking for sourdough info and started with The Rose Homestead but now I'm branching out as there is a lot of canning and/or freezing info on them and there are a lot of tomatoes still to come in. Farmhouse on Boone is going to be my next binge watch as that's been recommended by a few people.
Take care all of you 😊

Well done with the decluttering/organising.
Good luck to HT on the next phase of his life. Great that you are debt free so the income hit isn't quite as painful."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney1 -
Congratulations indeed @CRANKY40! Living CB and maintenance when DD went to uni last Sep was a shock but like you, I am so grateful that I have learned the no-debt mindset in time. It's sure coming in handy now! What zn achievement for you and HT. love Humdinger xx4

Congratulations to the HT and on to the next phase of his life. Great you are debt free so the loss of income hopefully won’t be too much of a problem.

Thank you @jwil @Humdinger1 @enthusiasticsaver and @DancingInTheRain. The teens had a good time Friday evening and they cleared up before everyone went home. They'd used most of the cups making themselves hot drinks so we ran the dishwasher but other than that I didn't have to do much. The cat was absolutely shattered because she'd been so busy being sociable 🤣
I'm contemplating counting no spend days as I haven't spent anything yet this month. I am supposed to be taking the HT out on Thursday. He can get some new t shirts and I will pay for lunch, train fare etc. I'll need to do some food shopping too - lunch stuff and milk mostly I think.
I cut the grass in the back yesterday. It was worse than the first winter cut so if the weather guess is right and it's not raining tomorrow I will run the mower over it again as it still looks a bit lumpy. The HT helped me to tidy the garden shed so there is room to put the wooden furniture away for the winter. The grass cuttings went to bf's compost heap but I still need to weed the flower beds.
I cleared my bedroom of craft stuff and other things that didn't belong there yesterday then I moved furniture and cleaned. It took me three hours but a lot of stuff crept in after my knee op and wasn't put away. It's all back in the proper place now (drawers in the little bedroom) and I have my three current projects in separate bags so I can pick up whichever one I feel like doing. I am making (in no particular order) a cardigan, granny squares to make a bag and a blanket in shades of blue for my bed. The blanket is a good winter project as it keeps me warm as I'm making it 😁 I did have a "made by me" cardigan but my sister asked could she have it when she last visited so it's gone to live in Ireland.
Garden stuff aka free food.....I brought home a courgette, two mini cucumbers, a lot of tomatoes and more beans when I dropped the grass cuttings off for bf's compost heap yesterday. I'm going over there today for lunch and to do some weeding so I will probably come home with even more beans. I do like free food 😊
Take care all of you 😊8
