@EssexHebridean my only CC is M£S one and it used to give me points that converted to vouchers, I think they still do that.
@CRANKY40 I usually use my "T" vouchers towards my shopping; red wine for me thoughLBM - October 2018; finally debt free on 16 March 2021

I do use the vouchers in store if they are at risk of running out but it's definitely a last resort!
I've seen others recommend the MnS card so might well look into that one - thanks @Deni_debt-free_dreamer !🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

@EssexHebridean - if your Te*co vouchers are due to expire you can phone up customer services and ask them to add them back onto your account and you then get another 2 years added on to those vouchers. I absolutely refuse to use them in store where they are only worth face value!
I've done this a couple of times now and think I'm going to need to do it again soon!

Good evening all,
NSD today which is good because I looked on a site that was recommended elsewhere on here and to switch my boiler from a tank system to a combi boiler and update a few radiators will cost £3000 or thereabouts. I've incorporated saving for that into the emergency fund so now I have several good reasons to try and save more. Also paying off my debts is pointless if I then end up in more debt because the boiler has gone bang.
I've just got over the sadness that discussing the HT's lack of ability in certain areas with the PIP people seems to cause. We had to have a recap as they said he could do something that he couldn't and it's important to get it right from the very beginning. It's done now anyway and I feel bad that it affects me so much when other people have far worse things going on. It could be because I an having big problems with sciatica just now so I know what the future holds for him and having to discuss his issues with "outside" people makes the whole situation more real somehow.
On the plus side I am definitely liking that the HT has his own money now. I still have a decent amount left in my current account even though January has been eleventy billion days long. Having said that we haven't been anywhere much thanks to covid and my ongoing sciatica. We've had one maccies lunch paid for by HT (I don't like maccies much so I just had some chicken) and we had fish and chips after one of the HT's exams because it finished so late. Best friend paid for a takeaway on Sunday as the HT's partner helped in the garden (I cut bits off the hedge because I didn't have to bend down or move much for that) and we had a games night afterwards.
Best friend and I are starting to look at seeds ready for growing. It would be good if we could grow our own salad stuff over the summer. I usually grow enough tomatoes but some other things would be useful.
Onwards and may your bank balances go upwards 😊3 -
Just because other people are also struggling with difficulties doesn't mean you can't feel sad about the things affecting you Cranky - you absolutely shouldn't feel bad about it! What sort of person would you be if you didn't find it hard, after all?! IMO The "Oh but count your blessings" mentality is nothing short of toxic positivity and should be banished for evermore - let's all let people feel their feelings without guilt! I'm glad you're feeling as though you can move on from it this time though - and that you were able to go the extra mile just to make sure things were 100% correct for him.
I need to start thinking about what we can grow this summer too - I had zero luck with tomatoes last year but then we were away at just the time when they really needed a bit of extra nurturing I think.
Ouch to that boiler cost - but at least you know where you stand and it sounds as though it will improve your quality of life within your home so all good there.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I managed to grow lettuce from seeds last year, they were very easy and plentiful. My old butler sink is ready for them but i fear my cat has taken it over as a cat loo
My neighbour grows tomatoes in a greenhouse and lets me share them as he usually has loads!

The positive thing comes from when I was widowed. I met so many other widows who didn't have the widow's pension or the benefit of life insurance and the death in service payment that I had. I have always said that a bad thing happened but I was still lucky. It didn't/doesn't stop me being upset about the whole thing but because I was widowed young I didn't want it to overshadow the rest of my life.
In other news I spent £5 in Asd@ today on a pizza meal deal for the HT and partner for Saturday night. Two pizzas and a bottle of pop and they can sort dinner themselves while I'm still working if they're hungry.

Hello all,
NSD today. I did go junk shop shopping with best friend as he wanted to know where the second hand furniture shops where round here. He bought a few things and I didn't buy anything. The first shop that we went to was silly expensive so I took him to my favourite shop and he found some bargains. We went to the supermarket on the way home and he bought stuff to make lunch. I made lunch on Wednesday so it was his turn - I do like having food made for me.
Nothing else financial to report. The HT thought he had lost his bank card so cancelled it then found it in his jeans pocket. I will have to lend him one of my cards next week so that he can buy lunch when he's at college. He will pay back anything that he spends though.
Take care all of you 😊3 -
What are they like 🙄 Glad he found it though, at least he knows no one dodgy has picked it up.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2
