boxofpaws said:Good luck with the PIP application- I’m in the process of completing for my mum ( attendance allowance but the principle is the same). They’re very long forms. Have you checked the citizens advice pages to see the questions so you can be fully prepared? As humans tend to downplay our difficulties- you need to remember, in this conversation you have to be honest. You may have started to deem certain things as ‘normal’ but just because you’ve accepted them, doesn’t make it ok.So, on the face of it, you might think you can, for example, cook a meal unaided. But if you need to sit down half way through, that seat is your aid. If you have developed tricks to get through the day and certain activities, they are all aids.
We just have to do a PIP refresh for my DS as he was only awarded for 3 years - so not looking forward to that but at least we know he passed the test the first time, you have to judge that. I would absolutely get support from the CAB they were invaluable, even if it delays your application a little - better a fortnight late and successful than done in a rush and rejectedI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Thanks @boxofpaws @mark55man @badmemory and the person who PM'd me offering specialist help.
I agree worth taking the time to get it right. The £ would make a huge difference if I could get it.

Worth checking if your local council has a welfare rights unit. Our local one offers support with benefit applications and know how to word them right to give you the best chance of being successful.5

I have DLA for my two little ones. The form is brutal, I cried doing it. You have to fill it in as if it is your very worse day.
But it is worth it. We will have to change to pip when the wierd one turns 16 in three years. Not sure how easy that will be, we were granted his DLA from when we applied until he was 16. The small one has only been granted for three years at a time, although next time we will be able to put an official ASD diagnosis on it which may help.
Good luck with it all.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉7 -
There's always threads about P1P on the benefits and disability boards, well worth reading as you'll know what to include and what isn't of use for your claim. There's links to the descriptors, which are also very helpful. As someone has said, if you can get help filling the form out, you've a better chance of it going through easier, if they decline go for a review.
Keep a diary for a few weeks, list everything you can do and how you've done it, list things you've not done and why. It will be easier when the form arrives.
Apparently there's a way of filling the form online, that's referred to on the disability board.
You've only got 4 weeks to get it back to them and any prep you can do before making contact, will make it easier for you.
There's no point contacting your GP, it's people like friends, family, counselor, line manager etc who can provide written statements to support how you are in real life situations, even your cleaner could do one as she sees what has to be done when she's at yours.
It's reading all the posts which is swaying me to apply.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.7 -
Well I'm glad it's helping MF. It also is helping me feel less alone. Thanks everyone for sharing.
Well BIL unglued (I kid you not) the toilet roll holder from the wall - and drilled and screwed it in place instead. He also did a little filling of holes...One of my nephews actually asked 'Is X rubbish at DIY and that's why Daddy is having to do it?' I really struggled to keep a straight face but because he could equally say it to X's face - I said 'No it's just when houses get a bit older sometimes things start falling off.' BIL has managed to fix something to the door of one meter cupboard so it shuts but I can get it open again despite the 'triangle' bit having broken. He tried to put the hinges on the meter cupboard where the hinges have failed completely but they didn't seem to work as he expected so he's going to come back another day to sort that. It's back to being propped shut with a branch as you do... He put DD's new light up which made her happy and luckily I had just enough light bulbs to fit it. Just ordered some more. After that he ran out of time.
I read to littlest - and got the kids doing craft and colouring which meant DD also got some attention to herself upstairs which made her happier. My nephews were happiest with a stapler and extractor and paperclips LOL. They're on a special diet so Sis brought food which made life easier. I just supplied fizzy grape juice. DD left with X and the kids and sis went to say hello to him at his car before he disappeared. When they'd gone I nipped to MnS for treat food with my work voucher. It's been a full on few days.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You did well not to laugh when asked and provided a very diplomatic response.
I tend to use wire / cable if the pins have dropped out of hinges, acts as a temporary fix until I get round to doing the permanent one.
Sounds like you're more at ease than a few days ago, even if it's been manic having the little people round.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.6 -
