Thanks Dancing.
Having another wobble on energy. I spoke yet again to BG. They generated a bill while I was talking to them of around £75 for 19 days worth of elec. This is higher than I anticipated. If I heard the BG person correctly - that would suggest my bill could be closer to £500 rather than the £400 I estimated. They said I'd receive an email - it still hasn't come. I've had 4 or 5 conversations with BG and each time they've had to try and set up my account from scratch... The emails never arrive either. Not happy!!
Apparently PE will need to bill me for the period from end Sept to when BG took over the bill. PE won't have much luck as they never had a start or end meter reading off me... I also don't have login details for them as they went bust - so who knows when I will get a bill from them!!
At least with Sh311 - I am due a bill on 12/2 and should then know where I stand on gas. My credit is showing at last which is a huge relief. I have set up a direct debit for £50 pcm for them as I'm really hoping that my credit of c£220 is enough to cover my bill - but I have no idea at this point. I have uploaded another meter reading.
I've gone through my budget and estimated £200 pcm for the next few months for gas and elec combined - and then an increase of 54% on top of that thereafter. Hopefully that's a complete over-estimate. If energy really does end up costing that much I will have to knock the idea of over-paying into my pension or mortgage on the head - unless - I really do get a payrise from work and it ends up being more than a token amount... or I manage to bring other income in every month
I still have clothes, hobbies and eating out lines that could be cut back in my budget if essential - but I'd rather not. They're not huge to start with - and after years of clawing my way out of debt - I was looking forward to refreshing my wardrobe etc. I think what's bothering me - is I can potentially cope with the April rise but if it was followed by one again in October then things will get really tricky.
I''m off to my balance class now. Hoping I feel better afterwards. When I get back - I will go around the house making sure any elec switches than can be - are switched off. It should all help. I definitely need to move away from the TD this year too.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

BG are incredibly slow to do anything. I miss PE. Put readings on the account less than a hour later - your bill is ready. If they could do it I really can't see why BG can't but well they can't & I'm stuck with them. Check how many days standing charge they are charging you, they seem to be charging me for an extra 22 days, but those 22 days are during the change over so I am holding fire for now. Just wondering when I am going to get my £353.17 that was the balance on my account with PE.I would suggest that you check what BG are charging you per unit as it went up on 1 Oct. The joys of SVR8

My company wants a DD of £120pm, when my annual bill is under £600. It feels like they look at one high bill and base the DD on that, rather than what has really been used over the previous 12 months.
Good luck with the tweaks and payrise, hopefully they'll come good.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.8 -
Please all check what your prices are NOW & how near you are to your end of fix. Then check what the prices are going to be as the SVR is likely to be your best deal. Believe me the news stories are not hype they are very worrying. My annual bill has gone from £1700 in Sept to £2700 in Oct to expected £4150 in April.

Frightening numbers. How on earth did we become a country where the majority of its people cannot afford to heat their homes? What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Frightening numbers indeed, but at least if you know what the numbers are you know what you are dealing with. They publish percentages & people just look & look away because they don't mean that much to them. That is why I gave the numbers. I'm sure most of you are only on half those but it still means £850, £1350 & 2075. Remember always knowledge is power.
