I've switched two properties to BG, got screenshots of the order number but no confirmation email, anyone else had this?
An "Order Number" is just a sales reference to track your request. Unfortunately there's no implication one way or another that the request will be successfully converted into a contract.

I wish you luck, but fear British Gas will put you through loops that will lead nowhere.

So I never got a confirmation email from BG, but I've managed to register an online account with them and it says my switch is on track for 7th December. It's now just a race against time to beat the SOLR.
Which tariff did you sign up to online?
    What are the rates?
Are there any early exit fees?

Are you sure it was British Gas, and not British Gas Evolve?
I signed up to HomeEnergy Secure Jan 2024 but I took screenshots of the chat confirming I would be switched to Zero Fix October 2022 once the switch goes through, and it will be backdated to the date of my switch so I'll never be on the more expensive tariff. No I am not with British Gas evolve.

As far as I'm concerned I've signed-up based on what they've said in the chat, if they refuse to honour it I'll take them to the ombudsman or, if need be, to court.
  • **Word of Warning**

After following this board and the Neon Reef (Ex customer) board I decided to switch to this tariff. I managed to have an online chat on Friday evening with one of the agents who after checking to see I can move to this tariff said it was available to me. During the chat I confirmed two times that I was interested in only transferring my electricity supply to Zero Fixed Oct 22. Again, he confirmed this was fine and went ahead and setup my account.

However, I received an email on Saturday stating that British Gas were happy to have me as their customer and were now in the process of taking over my gas supply! Please be very careful with whet these agents are conforming to you. They are lying and being in my opinion fraudulent ~ this tariff is an old tariff and does not really exist.

Unfortunately(again) what whey tell you via chat, Phone call with rep, or e-mail they will not regard as a binding agreement. I suspect the ombudsman would agree with them and you might get £20 or so as a goodwill gesture but no more.

They refused with me on several occasions and there are many MSE forumites who've reported here of similar very disappointing experiences. In my case they actually did fail to implement the written terms*** I had received by letter and email contract, but since the benefits would have only been worth around £10 to me I really couldn't stand the hassle of taking it further.

Believe me. I'm on your side, but just don't think the system is going to work in your favor.

*** Contracted to DD tariff (In writing, by email, by chat and by a phone call from BG Rep) but charged higher Cash/cheque prices.

How much are the unit prices on the HomeEnergy Secure tariff? Isn't that quite an expensive tariff to find yourself on if, as I suspect they will, BG say offering the Zero tariff was an error? Not sure I'd have been brave enough to take that risk.

(Very much on your side and hoping you, and others, get the Zero tariff!)

They'll turn around and say it was a system error or technical glitch and apologise. This is what I was told at the weekend when I complained they agreed to an electricity supply transfer (BG Zero Fix Oct 22) not a gas switch. Tried the phones but kept on getting disconnected and most of the employees on the chat are working from home.

Says Grizzlebeard, from personal experience that consumed 10 to 20 hours of my time but wasn't really worth taking to court (under ten squid).

As I also said, I really am on your side and I would love to see you beat the system and force the system to change.

Well let's see how it plays out. Between now and October 2022 the difference will be rather more than £10, as I have switched two properties.
