I have now been trying to contact DWP via RelayUK to start a PIP claim for 72 hours
Every time - it is "engaged" - there is a long wait - I have been waiting for up to 30 minutes
Anyone else managed to get through using RelayUK
I don't know whether to give up and do it via post ?

If it's anything like the other telephone lines then waiting can be anything up to an hour for someone to answer. You just have to try waiting longer.
Do you have someone that can ring on your behalf? I know this was advised on your other thread but i don't believe you answered.

My wife can speak but chooses not to
I just prefer to do these things myself - and surely - they should have adequate numbers of people to answer non-speaking calls ?
What time of day is best for calling via Relay ?
or should I write to them ?
  • As I understand (unless it has changed recently) you go into the regular queue and the adviser on the other end will pick up the call as normal, simply liaising with the Relay UK rep. This means that the calls are answered within the current wait time which, unfortunately, can sometimes be over an hour.

First thing in the morning tends to be quietest

just be patient. 30 mins is not a long time to be on hold.

OK I will try tomorrow at 8:30 and failing that I will have to write to them

Will DWP accept a phone call from my local CAB (without my actual presence) as an application
If I give CAB my details

You said you prefered to do it yourself..
  • I have waited for over an hour trying to get through to DWP in the past (it's absolutely exhausting for me which is why I avoid calling if I can).  More usually it's 30-45mins, anything less is almost miraculous.
  • I tried again from 09:00 until 09:45
    No luck
    I'm writing to them

    Is it not 0800 917 2222 rather than 0800 121 4433 ?
0800 121 4433 is just for updates to previously made claims......
