70% increase in cost - Utility Point to EDF - YES!! SEVENTY PERCENT!!
Options
Utility Point ceased trading
However, given the rise in wholesale prices for both gas & electricity and very slim margins the company were working with, it's probably not that surprising.
It's very sad that the good people working for Utility Point are most likely facing unemployment.
What has shocked me is I'm now facing an increase of 70% in cost for the supply of both gas & electricity!
On hearing the news, on 19th September, that OFGEM will be switching my supply to EDF I went to see what the new tariff would be.
The best fixed tariff I could find was "Easy 3 Year Online Fixed" BUT I choked when I saw a near 98% increase.
Attempts to find the tariff that would apply failed until today when I resorted to using EDF's online chat facility.
The end result is a 70% increase!
(The MSE tariff for Utility Point Ruby is marginally higher than the rate on my bill)

It will cost more than the 15month tariff you agreed with UP in the early part of this year, but will be less than the EDF tariffs you have considered now.

You might be new to this, welcome.
Take a quick look around the forum you'll likely find that your 70% is on the lower end of increases that most people are facing.
For example I'm looking at increases well over 100%,many others are well above even that.
For what it's worth what your currently on is about as good as it gets, for the present time.2 -
I am moving from Symbio "LFG 12M Fixed SE02 v23" to EON.Next "Flex Next". My forecast charges for next 6 months with EON.Next are £445.36. The same period and electricity consumption at the Symbio rate would have been £262.75. That is an increase of 69.5%. The likes of Utility Point and Symbio went bust because of ridiculously low tariffs. Now we are in the real world, on tariffs regulated by OFGEM.

We should all be thankful for the price cap and that we don't have smart metering that actually charges the real cost of energy on a daily basis.
