They reckon that we heat our houses to at least 4C warmer now than was normal in the 1970s.
With governments claiming the planet is getting warmer and people have heating on 4C higher than the 1970's shouldn't it be that the people are using less and having the temperature lower?
I'm sure they will when they get their next bills
  • I try to hold off until November (just one of those things) and then budget for 4 months of high Gas use (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb), using between 50-60kwh per day at the minute but that will creep up to near 100kwh if we have a very cold Jan / Feb.

House kept at 18.5 Degrees whilst at home throughout these months.
  • I don't rely on my thermostat because the temperature I'm comfortable at varies, mostly with my activity level. When I've previously tried relying on my thermostat there would either be times the heating would come on when I didn't need it, or not come on when I was cold. By controlling when the heating comes on manually I find I use far less energy.

I think I've had my heating on three times so far this year, but it's now at about the outside temperature where this will become more frequent.
I'm the same in that I put the controller into airplane mode and just disable it when I want heat. I don't rely on the thermostat but I have a very well insulated house so the rooms hold their heat pretty well.

No mention of UFH systems, poor advice regarding leaving heating in internal rooms off without considering insulation between living spaces etc etc. Shocking journalism and very poor generic advice from the BBC.

My flat feels like it's carved out of ice at this time of year. It will be time for me to turn on the heating soon: a blast in the morning and the evening.

What's your system when it comes to heating your home?
All I can say is more fool you.
Life is far to short to sit freezing to death. Stay warm, stay healthy. 👍

I think it's pretty good advice for the average person.

I don't,my smart thermostat does as scheduled, which it has done without issue for several years now.
As did the previous, not quite so smart thermostat with no problems either.
Although it works for some,I dont hold with the heating "season" palaver,if it's cold enough to require heating then heating it is,regardless of being January or July.
Quite honestly think that a smart thermostat is well worthwhile for most, bar the initial setup and tweaking I've not needed to change my settings for years, essentially fitted and forgotten and living at comfortable level year round.

I will be putting mine on when the outside temperature drops to 5c normally when it's 5c it's about 15c inside the flat.. Being in a flat I am suffering from clothes taking longer to dry without any heating on.

It's funny we all fight the urge to put the heating on but when it finally is time then we fight the urge to not to turn it off in April lol

Mine was switched on last weekend. I feel very fortunate that I live in a large house and can afford the running costs. The problem, as always, is the staffing costs. I might have to let the housekeeper & the cook go who have been with me for quite a few years but at least it'll free up a couple of rooms....bedroom & dressing room. Marriage is a funny old thing isn't it..... you take for granted someone bringing in the firewood, lighting fires, cooking meals, laundry until you find you have to get someone else to do it all for you.😉😉
