This year as late as possible because my flat is electricity only. Dehumidifier for the living room and hot water bottle for the bed.

The house is controlled by thermostat, so it comes on when it needs to and goes off when it's warm enough.

My boiler says it was on for 4 hours yesterday and 1 hr 40 so far today (since midnight).

We have not turned on the  boiler yet. However we have two multi stoves and heat our Vicky house just lovely. We had them installed in the Summer.

I presume all these people who have the boiler turned off till mid November either wear 5 layers of clothes and balaclava.......or live in the slightly warmer/milder southern parts of the UK

I do wear a fleece but live in an Edwardian mid-terrace in Glasgow. CH has only been on minimally so far.
  • It might be more interesting to know what temperature different individuals feel is appropriate.  My impression from the responses is that it is hugely different from one person to another.  In my case it's a minimum of 17.5 C overnight up to 20.5 C in the evening.  This would not be possible without running my heating and it has been coming on at least some of the time since the end of September.

They reckon that we heat our houses to at least 4C warmer now than was normal in the 1970s.

I never turn it off. The thermostat is set to 18 degrees, it comes on when it needs to.
The problem I find is that 18 degrees might be too cold a setting for the winter and too warm for the summer so I do tend to change the thermostat temperature depending on the time of year. It might be due to the room it's located in but there seems little point heating the house because it's hit a specific temperature even if the house feels ok as is.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
