When do you turn on your heating, if at all?

Victorian terrace that stays fairly warm anyway. My heating is on timer & thermostat set to 18c.Over summer i drop the stat to 10c & when the house starts to feel chilly in autumn it goes back up to 18c.Hardly been coming on these past few weeks, but it has these last few nights.Heating is always off while im at work & in the night. Comes on 3 hours in the morning & 3 at night. Toasty when i get up & toasty when i come in from work.I sleep with a 13 tog duvet & feel fine at night. It’s definitely getting colder now. I’m having to turn the temp up on my electric shower as the mains water gets cooler.1

With governments claiming the planet is getting warmer and people have heating on 4C higher than the 1970's shouldn't it be that the people are using less and having the temperature lower?BUFF said:They reckon that we heat our houses to at least 4C warmer now than was normal in the 1970s.Someone please tell me what money is0 -

It's usually when the temperature gets to 17°C or below that I consider switching the heating on. When I do I have the thermostat set to 18°C which means it switches off at 18.5°C. This feels positively warm to me with a jumper on.1

I caved in and put the heating on for 20 mins this morning, I'm feeling the cold today, unsure why it's a few degrees warmer than a few days ago (apparently). 11 kWh used around 43 pence.0

No, as people are heating by ~3x the averaged current increase in climate. If people had kept heating to the same level as they used to in the 70s then yes, they would be using less - but they aren't.wild666 said:

If you adjusted to the annual changing weather & used a winter duvet in winter then you could turn your heating down overnight, save energy & hence money - the winter duvet would no doubt pay for itself (<£15 in Aldi/Lidl etc.).wild666 said:

No heating on for me just yet! I am deliberately being cautious, as I have yet to hear a peep from EDF. In the meantime, my current direct debit is slowly siphoning my bank balance to Utility Point while I wait to hear what to do from either of them.
