When do you turn on your heating, if at all?

My flat feels like it's carved out of ice at this time of year. It will be time for me to turn on the heating soon: a blast in the morning and the evening.
What's your system when it comes to heating your home?

I haven't turned mine on yet it's 6 degrees here but I use a hot water bottle unless it's REALLY COLD. When the daughter comes down it will be the first thing she does even if I am warm from the hot water bottle.Someone please tell me what money is1

When I was "home alone" before my wife retired, rarely had the heating on during the day ,even in the Winter, but since last week it has been switched on from 6am til 9pm on the thermostat set at 20 deg C. I try to avoid using the heating until the end of October but it's a running battle!!0

No "system" as such,a smart thermostat controls heating as intended and has done for years.
Living in south western Scotland,it's largely immaterial wether it's January or July really,if it's cold enough heating switches on and off as required.
Just can't grasp those with a heating season who'd rather freeze because it's not "time" to switch heating on.14 -
I also use modern heating equipment with thermostat and heating is never off, it just comes on when temp are low.5

Frost protection set at 10 degrees.
From about mid October when I come home from work I set an hour boost to 18 degrees in the living room. I have an electric throw on my couch to avoid putting the central heating up to high.
Since two days ago I've set my bedroom to 16 degrees in the morning.

I feel like I'm a right softie. I bravely held out until the 1st October but clearly I should have waited a further month. In mitigation, I did turn the thermostat down to 17 degrees, in anticipation of going on the cap price, when my Zog fixed contract comes to an end, in a couple of weeks time. On many days the boiler didn't fire up at all for heating, just hot water.2

I never turn it off. The thermostat is set to 18 degrees, it comes on when it needs to.2

Like many others, we never turn it off.The thermostat has various time/temperature targets set and it decides if/when heating is required during the day.1
