Caught something on GMTV this morning re the proposed utility company payment "strike". Martin Lewis seemed to be suggesting that the movement is gathering pace ! That'll give Ms Truss something to think about over her cornflakes !0

I caught that too over coffee, it did sound like he was supporting the notion as no one would get cut off? But then again it was before my first cup.brewerdave said:Caught something on GMTV this morning re the proposed utility company payment "strike". I presume that he was making the assumption that if enuf people refused to pay it would be impractical to cut them off ?Mstty said:

If that is true how does it match the forum rules that you would not be allowed to promote the same here in the forum?1

Worth watching it all but particularly 7 minutes in regarding boycott of paying bills. He suggests it's plausible but not necessarily saying do it.pochase said:If that is true how does it match the forum rules that you would not be allowed to promote the same here in the forum?0 -

I thought that energy companies could remotely disconnect anyone who had a smart meter (assuming it is in comms with the supplier's servers)?brewerdave said:

It is in theory technically possible at a hardware level, however it is not enabled at a firmware level yet on credit meters and currently the legislation does not allow it to happen. That could of course be changed, but in reality if people refuse to pay for the energy that they use then they should be cut off, just the same as with any other service.littleteapot said:

I agree with disconnection not being legal, but I don't see a problem to switch somebody who will not pay from credit to prepaid and to recover the debt this way.0
