  • @bristolleedsfan Interesting link and reminder. Ofgem getting its name for nowt again. And deservedly so in my opinion. Trying to look tough now, having created a lot of the problems in the first place. I also note that Mr Kwarteng MP is very thin on the ground these days, both in the energy area, and with the ructions in the Tory party.

It is more likely with inflation and staff shortages, public buildings will close permanently, bus routes will be axed permanently (pensioners were using free bus travel to keep warm on buses), food banks will close and those who can neither heat or eat will have no options left. If you want an idea of where things could head, see what is currently happening in the Netherlands.

We're near 10p a kWh for gas in the height of summer on the cusp of breaking heat records in the UK. There's no way the price cap is going to be around £3,200 in October.

Do you think the October (and January) price caps will be higher? What is a realistic guess?

Keep an eye on the natural gas prices:

I won't post the quote tweets from Europeans, Germans in particular because... they're not happy might be the MSE friendly way of putting it. The suspicion being is that Nord Stream 1 will not be coming back online after the maintenance period.

The 'Big Power Off' is making a comeback, apparently having 'won the impossible last time'...
