The Guardian have an article about gas prices.

Yeah, my gas fix @5.07 runs out 3/3/27 so I guess my Winter Fuel payment will be covering that. I imagine I will be going onto SVT to see which way gas is going for the year forward.I can't see me going back to tracker though, I think that boat sailed 18 months ago.

Martyn has already answered, sorry haven't been by last few days! Fortunately I have a hot water tank which is either heated by solar surplus or cheap Agile, so gas rarely used and when I go gas less after a trial of A2A the savings in SC will more than cover short periods of higher prices.
Gas on OctopusTracker is 10.46p/kWh today in the south, for those keeping an eye on the market. Haven't used any yet since February as it's been so mild here although did put the wood stove on for my Saturday evening guest.

I can see your point, but like all the variable products you will normally save over the long term as the reward for taking some risk off of the supplier. Now the problem is that they have the resources, knowledge and expertise not to be too generous to the final consumer, but fixes at 5p or so will be making them a loss and as we have seen the next fixes will be goodness knows what, hence my pointing out current tracker prices.
Then when gas prices go down again (and there's plenty coming on stream world wide) people on expensive fixes will all be moaning again. If you get your timing right fixing can make you a winner, but there are losers too, and I quite appreciate the transparency of Tracker. Still intend to get rid of gas completely though!
