    No road tax
That won't be the case for new EVs, and there are horrendous VED surcharges for five years if the list price (including options) exceeds £40k.  This tax raid already includes most EVs.  The limit hasn't been raised since its introduction in 2018, so it won't be long before it applies to all EVs.

Electric, zero or low emission cars registered between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025

You will pay the standard rate. This will be £195.

Takes effect April 1 this year...

Good forestry practice is to fell and re-stock
Article is referring to primary forests, which are "old growth" forests not significantly disturbed by human activity, I don't think they need our "management" :)
Ever thought of disease, or pests?

There are all sorts of reasons why some trees need felling.
Read the article, the forests are being logged for profit, Drax was buying it and have said they'll stop doing so, presumably because it's been highlighted and they want more government money.

    It's the BBC!

All forests are felled for a profit, who does anything for nothing these days?

    The activity was legal.

Making a profit is not a crime.

Making a profit seems to be a thing the UK despises, although we love the taxes?

We all like money ourselves but seem to begrudge others, it's a strange concept to me.

And all this, because we don't like heat pumps and ev's?

Yes indeed, the days when the BBC was a reliable source of news are long gone and they seem to have simply gone the way of headline-grabbing sensationalism.

All the BBC have done is identify that one of Drax's suppliers have had a shipment of timber which is alleged to have been from what they describe as primary forest (which I think is a reference to what we would describe as wildwood in the UK and to all intents and purposes there isn't any in the UK). There is no evidence to suggest this is widescale and they have reported the fact that all the timber products that Drax buys licenced. It may be reasonable to suggest that Drax should take measures to ensure the validity of those licences and there's no evidence this hasn't been done to a reasonable extent. We simply don't know the detail here. For all we know, the BBC may have uncovered evidence that 0.00001% of Drax's timber has come from primary forestry.

The comments I made earlier about the photos not really showing any evidence of anything other than normal forestry management still hold, and just because the BBC has chosen to present them as part of their story doesn't prove anything.

Having said all that, I think we all agree that IF it really is the case that if forest has been harvested illegally then steps need to be taken to rectify that.

If I remember, even the BBC news article states that it was legally harvested.

The `news' is, that somebody cut down some old trees and some companies made a profit from it.

    Hardly news, is it?

Some companies are carrying on their legal businesses, big deal!

Two power station owners to get more than £12m for three hours of electricity

Uniper and a subsidiary of Vitol able to charge 50 times recent market price to ensure supply during evening peak

Two gas power station owners will be paid more than £12m to supply just three hours of electricity on Wednesday evening after freezing weather led to some of the highest market prices since the energy crisis began.

I wonder how much it costs to run a gas power station for three hours at short notice?

How many homes are they supplying?

The headline makes it sound like it is all profit, it isn't.

I wonder how much a gas power station costs to be sitting there ready and waiting for when we need it?

What are these `news' sources trying to do?

It seems like they just want to promote discontent and make people unhappy. And all to bolster their own profits, exactly what they are condemning others for.
