Why are you trying to complicate things? Everybody knows what travel is

You will find higher prices going to New York than to Sydney more of the time.  I travel by air as part of what I do for a living.  I often have to search for ticket prices to make a job feasible.  You can't compare travel costs just on the basis of distance.  Even with road travel.  How you drive, what fuel you use, how often you have to brake and then regain your speed, how much traffic there is al has an impact on cost.  To say that it is simply all to about distance is an obtuse argument.
  • Why are you trying to muddy the waters? The farther you travel , the bigger your footprint

Not all miles are equal though. 1 mile in a Hummer is going to have a much bigger footprint than 1 mile in a Zoe.

  • sorry!!  little people will just have to cram on to public transport until they can afford hand me down leccy cars sold by important people like MPs, scientists, and guardian writers..  get with the program!

The farther you travel the bigger your footprint in whatever vehicle.  You will be talking carbon trading next. KISS

I wish there was a way for me to switch the electric but I can't without spending a considerable amount of money to switch from my Renault Clio.

I don't do huge milage anyway, I did less than 5000 miles between MOTs so I'm probably doing the planet a favour by not changing?

Are you sure?  I don't know how much energy is used to make hummers/Zoe's and how far they are transported around the world.

Outside of really edge cases where the cars are built, do a tiny mileage and then scrapped, theres no way the Hummer doing 15mpg can have a lower footprint than the Zoe doing 4 m/kwh.

Review the options when you are due to change your car.

Thats what we will do.  Our bought new current car is likely to be our last hurrah to ICE cars as our main car.  When its due a change it'll almost certainly be to an electric car but i think thats likely to be many years away yet.  Changing it for the sake of changing to an electric car right now would seem more like adding to the problem, than being part of the solution.
