    The requirements are here. https://www.interieur.gouv.fr/Actualites/L-actu-du-Ministere/Certificate-of-international-travel

You can now enter France for tourism purposes, however I believe for the UK the test must be within 24 hours, not 48.

Compelling reasons are only required for red and scarlet countries, of which there are none globally at present.

Thanks for the updated info. I posted what I read earlier today. Vaccinated people must submit a negative PCR test result from within 48 hours of departure. For non-vaccinated people it's 24 hours. Trying to find a local/convenient Covid PCR test centre, who can get the result to me within 32 hours, is proving to be very difficult.

It can be Antigen, again from my above link which is coming directly from the French government.

If you're near/flying from an airport, it may be worth looking at their own testing facilities as while you may pay more, you'll also have certainty that the result will come back quickly. I've personally had no issues with Collinson, who are present at many airports. With the code BA20OFF, you can get an Antigen for £32 (or could when I flew via Poland last month).

  • I will not be flying to France. I will travelling by car and sailing from Portsmouth - Caen (Ouistreham). I would need to submit a PCR test on Sunday morning, then leave for Portsmouth around 1pm. I will be staying overnight in Portsmouth. On Monday evening the ferry sails at 10.45pm but check-in will be around 8.30pm. I must have a negative PCR test result when I check-in.

Check for any Irish ancestry and apply for an Irish passport?  Only said partly tongue-in-cheek.
I actually did this, but unfortunately there isn't any Irish blood in my family. Sucks being a second class citizen in my own country.

A 3 hour PCR would likely be what you need in this case.

Where are you coming from (roughly, don't need an exact location)? I'm hopeful I'll be able to find you some options. Again, Collinson for a morning test will have the results back to you before 10pm normally, which buys you some time, so checking their sites for your drive will help.

I can attempt to find another provider if required, but have never used other providers for a PCR test so can't vouch for the quality.

  • I will be travelling from the Manchester area to Portsmouth. The only one I've found that could be ok, is one in Whitefield. It may be possible to get the test kit delivered by post, take the test Sunday morning and then drive to Whitefield and deposit the test at the lab, by appointment. I'll have to search for that again. None of the labs in Portsmouth seem to offer same day results.

If convenient, Collinson have a site at Manchester Airport, including I believe a drive through centre.

Expresstest have the same at Birmingham Airport, which is just off the M42.

Expresstest I can't vouch for, but Collinson do offer a 3 hour PCR service and definitely are at Manchester as a colleague used them recently.

Thanks for all the info. I have found Expresstest at Eastleigh, Southampton. They do drive through tests on a Sunday, on a football club car park, near Southampton Airport. I will be driving past there on the M27, on my way to Portsmouth.

Good news! As of 12th February 2022, PCR tests are no longer required to enter France. Just a Covid declaration form to fill out.
