['ve established a routine now for printer shopping. Epson C66 for approx £30 used with cheap cartridges (about £14 for 12). Works perfectly buit after about 9 - 12 months the message appears "There are parts on this machine which are coming to the end of their time - and need replacement" That's when I buy a new machine for £30 !! Works for me.[/quote]
I do the same but when that message appears I take it to the local computer shop (not PC World) and have the counter reset. Then it is fine for another 6-12 months ! The message just means that the pads that take the waste ink when we clean the head is full.

Dear All
I am struggling to decide whether to go with a laser or the cheap Epson solution - my printing is pretty much all b/w text, so a laser seems like a good bet.
For the cheap Epsons - buy one for £30 and cane it with dodgy cartridges until it bites the dust - where do people buy them? For example, just looked for an Epson C66 on Amazon - no results, then on EBAY - just a couple of used ones.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

If you're printing mainly in monocolour I would say on balance that an inkjet would be most cost-effective. Laser printers often need toner plus at least one other replaceable component, like a photorecptor or heater unit. Whilst the toner can be relativeley cheap to replenish you will generally find that the other consumables are very expensive.
Also, laser printers often take a set amount of toner per print and then dump the remainder in a waste toner container, whereas inkjets take only what is required per print. Sometimes the waste toner container is a replaceable unit and this can add to the cost too.0 -

My method was:
order online, with 10% code off = 57 - quidco 5% - 20 canon cashback = 34.15
Then after you get it, phone and pricematch. This way you get the quidco, the discount code, and the best price. I tried for tesco and amazon - amazon might be the one I get, cos it's 45ind delivery, but tesco are 43 without (don't think free delivery to a store counts, but you never know). Assuming amazon, that's a further 16.50 off, brining it to 17.65. Then there's the final 5% off cos I bought it with a amex credit card, so net 14.80 :-) If I get the tesco pricematch, it's 12.60.....0 -

I had looked at Quidco but noted it won't track for PC World for store pick up. Obviously everybody is pricematching
.
Got this today and it's good IMHO. Cheper than buying cartridges!! Running costs aren't too bad eitherA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

I always buy Computeractive magazine £1.50p per fortnight. Look in the last few pages, you will then see how much cartridges will cost. Then buy the printer to suit. Always works for me!!! Peter.0

Ive had a lexmark X1150 AIO for a cuple of years and had no probs with it. Only use it for b&w documents and the odd photo and also scanning docs. Ink is a little expensive but I always use refills for black.0

Hi all, I am interested in getting the CANON PIXMA MP210 all-in-one, but where do you get the "cheaper" ink cartridges from? I can't find them anywhere. Also would this be compatible with Windows 98? If not compatible which one can I get?
Yes, before anyone says, Windows 98 is STILL around !! No pennies for an upgrade.:smileyheaMagenta0 -

Yeah, it's a bit daft that after discounts, buying this was cheaper than buying a single cartridge for my old printer.
Incidentally, the method I spelled out above worked fine - yawde code for 10% off, quidco tracked at 5%, pricematch was no problem (just phoned up afterwards and asked for a match with ebuyer/amazon/tesco).0
