  • Viking Direct (http://www.viking-direct.co.uk) sell Brother and Canon laser printers for £70.00 (often less when on special offer). I got mine for £41.00. Replacement toner cartridges cost about £25.00 but last about 2 - 3000 copies.

Remember that it does print in b&w. They have co9lour laser printers for just over £100 but I am not sure about them.
  • Ink World - http://www.ink-world.co.uk sell the Black and Colour cartridges for the Olivetti Anyway series for £20.99 each - Link here: http://www.ink-world.co.uk/ink_results.asp?Brand=Olivetti&Range=Olivetti%20Any_Way%20Series&Model=Any_Way%20Simple

    Hope this helps,

I suggest when looking at well priced printers that you check out the sites that sell non-branded ink cartridges. Its the ink cartridges that the manufacturers want to make profits from you. I always check that I can get non branded cartridges (about £2-3 each) when buying a new printer, even if it means paying a few pounds more. I save on the ink!!! (eg go to www.UKDVDR.co.uk and check out if cartridges are available for any particular printer).
  • just thought i would say that i have a canon mp360. Ive had it 3yrs.

I buy universal refills and fill the cartridges up myself. 3 carttridges per refill and you get 3 refills per pack for about £8.00. so thats about 9 cartridges for £8.
  • The HP 2180 can also be found in WHSmiths at £29.95. If you've saved up some loyalty points you 'd be able to reduced it even more - I cashed in about £4 worth so the printer cost me £26! The full price of HP inks (HP21 and HP22) would set you back about £27 to £30 so you might want to throw away the printer when the ink runs dry (both the cartridges might not be finished). Not so hot for the environment but easier on your pocket (and you might be able to sell the old unit to someone else. Much better ink prices are usually to be found on eBay where you should be able to get the 2 cartridges for around the £20 mark.
Only negative comment about the scanner unit is it is VERY slow. printer great but don't hold your breath for the copy or scanner performance.:rotfl:

  • If I might suggest a caveat regarding laser printers - some of them consume hundreds of watts whilst operating: I'd strongly urge a thorough read-up on the tech specs before purchase, or you could find their undoubted postive qualities being negated by increased power bills.

Yes this is the case when they are operating. Toner powder needs heat to melt it and to bake it onto the sheet of paper. Therefore, as you say, energy bills will increase during the printing phase. But for the average user it would barely be noticeable.
  • This is great MSE-style advice, but with horrible consequences for the environment. For this reason I wish all the printer manufacturers would aim to make profit on their printers, and not the ink.

I've established a routine now for printer shopping. Epson C66 for approx £30 used with cheap cartridges (about £14 for 12). Works perfectly buit after about 9 - 12 months the message appears "There are parts on this machine which are coming to the end of their time - and need replacement" That's when I buy a new machine for £30 !! Works for me.
If less is more, think how much "more" more would be.
  • I am tempted to get one of these.Does anyone out there know where i can get cheaper compatible cartridges for this printer. The few online sites i have used before only seem to sell the expensive original cartridges.Thankyou
