I did submit a reading this morning just in case  Does anyone know at what stage we start being charged at the new supplier's rates?  ie until Ofgem appoints someone else are we still on the PP tariff? In which case I assume we will be asked for another reading later on
It'll probably take a few days to appoint a SOLR. In the case of the three that went under on Wednesday two weeks ago, the supply moved on Sunday although the announcement of this and the identity of the SOLR did not come until Monday.
Yes.. I am a PP member and a post on the community pages states that Ofgem will appoint a SOLR in the next few days.
The new SOLR will be announced on Ofgem's website and social media...
    Sigh 😓😪

    Official announcement from Ofgem:

Pure Planet Limited and Colorado Energy Limited have today announced they are ceasing to trade. Pure Planet supplies gas and electricity to around 235,000 domestic customers and Colorado Energy supplies gas and electricity to around 15,000 domestic customers.

Under Ofgem’s safety net, customers’ energy supply will continue and funds that domestic customers have paid into their accounts will be protected, where they are in credit. Domestic customers will also be protected by the energy price cap when being switched to a new supplier.

Customers of these suppliers will be contacted by their new supplier, which will be chosen by Ofgem.

  • Well, that’s very late breaking, to say the least. I note that there does not appear to be any time stamp on the OFGEM statement. However, it seems to be at least 2 hours after the PP Community statement.

It did seem odd that there was such a long gap after the news was broken but maybe it was to do with the other supplier, Colorado. Or perhaps there were more they were intending to announce today but it got so late that they decided they'd better get these two out and deal with anything else separately.

I was with Pure Planet until my contract was about to expire and the MSE tool flagged up Utility Point as a cheaper option, so I switched to them on the 10th of August. Of course they went bust last month and I was moved to EDF on the 18th of September, though I'm still waiting for a welcome pack and account details.
The problem is I was paying to both PP and UP for a couple of months and so was in credit with PP. This should've been passed on to UP, but hadn't before it ceased trading, so now I'm wondering if EDF will receive it along with any credit from UP.
I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait for my EDF account to finalise.

In a regular case where you just switch from one supplier to another, any credit from a former supplier would not be passed on from old to new but would be refunded to the customer. So PP owed you.

Don't panic, it is protected and you will get it back from PP's SOLR, whoever that might be - however as an ex-customer you will not be a top priority and it may take a while.

Thanks for that. I suppose the same will happen with any credit I have with Utility Point, too, though I don't know how that will be worked out, as I was away from home when they went bust so couldn't take any meter readings, and I've never actually had a bill from them, I've just made three DD payments.
  • Anyone heard any speculation on the SOLR? Looks like British Gas and EON have swallowed up a fair few of the defunked suppliers’ customers, but I’m not accounting for how many customers each one actually had in that calculation, as in they may have taken the most in number of companies though those companies may not have had as many customers as the one company that octopus took on etc. Hoping it’s not Scottish Power after the last time with Yorkshire Energy, they really couldn’t handle the migration…having said that bet most companies are creaking under the additional stresses of extra customers. Do feel lucky for the price cap at this stage else who knows what we’d be paying? Unless I’m looking at it wrong.

I think it's a bit early to really have a clue who the SOLR may be?
  • I've taken Martin's advice and taken a screen print of the state of my account with Pure Planet.
I see that the tariff has a £30 early exit fee.  Well I hope that they pay that to me as it was them that exited from the contract early!
They claimed to be using 100% renewable energy - so I feel aggrieved that we get caught up in the storm around increasing gas prices.  It is all just a con ...
