I've just had an email linking me to their blog. They say they are going to transfer accounts by Jan, but one key thing I've picked up on is that it advises to keep 2-3 months of DD payments to one side to pay Januarys bill. This is going to be for 3 months worth of energy.

The query is whether the DD money we've been paying to PP contributes towards the bill or not. It doesn't say one way or the other so I've sent them a query. I'd like to think it does, but the blog also says its taking a while to transfer the accounts and any credit so I suppose its something they need to clarify

The blog at the moment says  If you haven’t already done so, we recommend setting aside two to three months’ Direct Debit payments so you’ll have enough to cover your bill. If you have a credit balance, you can put this towards your next bill.” so I take this to mean our PP balances from the current DDs will go toward the backdated bill.

My DDs up to and including Decembers are showing towards my balance in the PP app.

Maybe it's just the way it's worded. Why say that you might need to set 2-3 months of DD aside when we are already paying the DD?

Why not just say the DD you've been paying (if you've continued to pay it) will be used towards your next bill (?)

Maybe a large number cancelled and they were simply most concerned about them, plus the new bill will be at the cap so more expensive than the DD is set at anyway?

Martin Lewis has just been on GMB and said that the price cap is expected to rise from £1277 to £1925, with further rises predicted in October. He mentioned that there are a handful of fixed price tariffs out there at 40% above the wholesale price at the moment and said they would be worth considering.

Does anyone know which tariffs they are?

Its also worth knowing that ministers are meeting today to discuss what can be done as the rises are going to literally plunge millions into fuel poverty (me included)

I read the same in the email last night, like you I will end up in serious trouble. I then looked for these magical tariffs that were referenced and can tell you I found nothing. All were close to a grand more for me a year, which doesn’t sound like 40% to me, might be my area or might just be this is unprecedented. Shell keep telling me my account is almost ready…hoping recent mild weather will knock something off the mighty bill that’s coming. Kept my dd going but there simply isn’t the money for us to be putting a load a side to tackle a high bill. Starting to think cheap switches are a thing of the past, like some kind of golden age we’ll tell our kids about one day 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think the forum is full of worried people asking similar questions so it's understandable that people haven't answered.

Unfortunately energy isn't the only increase. Inflation is ridiculously high, council tax is set to rise 5%, mortgage rates will go up with the bank of England interest rise and national insurance rises kick in April. Public sector pay freezes for 5+ years have seen my pay stagnate. You can see why it all gets too much for some people who end up taking the worst kind of action
