So if I'm working it out correctly, 8700kwh is roughly £2070. I use on average 7500kwh per annum so my electric alone will be £1800? Add to that the 24p per day standing charge (assume that's x365 for every day of the year) and that adds another £87 per year.

Gas is cheaper as I only use 7500kwh per annum, so probably £400 per year plus standing charge of 26p per day or £95 each year.

So my annual bill is going up from £1100 to roughly £2400. Does that sound right? If it does, I feel sick to the stomach :(

I don't quite follow your calculations; you seem to have used an electricity unit rate of 24p/kWh, and a gas unit rate of 5.3p, both of which are far higer than the Ofgem cap. 21p and 4p would be more like it.
At 21p and 4p, your annual bill will be about £2050.

The rates on Shell are 20.8p electricity plus 24p per day standing charge. Gas is 4.05p plus 26p per day standing charge. So based on what you said, it sounds like your calculations are closer than mine 😏

Its still going to be an extra £800 that I have to find from money I haven't got, but better than £2400
  • Has any one else just been watching joe lycett vs the oil giant? In this instance Shell….Actually feeling quite uneasy now, not that there’s much I can physically do at this stage…well worth a watch 😬

  • Anyone received account details yet? They say it’s going to be this month. Been trying to keep extra above the dd amount aside but not always managed it.

No, I've received nothing lately about my new account.  I've had my final PP bill though, and they're still taking the DD which is building up to a large balance.  Every energy company I've ever been with has massively overcharged me by DD, so I'm not too concerned about putting extra away at the moment as I think the increased cost will be near enough what my DD is anyway, thankfully.  Hopefully it's not too much of a shock when the first bill comes!

As an aside is anyone else slightly peeved that Bulb customers are keeping their lower fixed tariffs, whereas every other supplier that has gone bust has led to us going onto standard rates.

No need to be peeved, Bulb customers only get to keep their rates because bulb only offered variable tariffs and they were already on the cap.

Ah, I see, thanks.  I probably should have read past the line of "will remain on current deals".

The last update I had was that my DD would be transferred to Shell in January. Transfers will presumably take place for different people at different times and I'm very much just taking a 'it will happen when it happens' approach.
